Question:

Why is everyone so quick to go against the Pittsburgh Penguins as they head to the Stanley Cup??

People are already saying they are going to lose to Detroit (who hasn't even clinched yet). I never heard so many negative opinions about a team that just ran through the playoffs losing 2 games in the process. Please explain. Try not to sound like a jack ***.

  1. people can't stand the pen's mostly because of crosby. me and my dad were watching the game we had to change the channel when the mike milbury and sidney crosby interview started. anyone i talk to can't stand him. he is to cocky and arrogant. i will admit that it is annoying that everyone is saying that detroit is gonna win and they haven't clinched yet but i hope if they do they win and if dallas wins they beat the pen's. i also can't stand that pen's fans always talk badly about jagr when he helped you guys win the cup.

  2. I really don't care per se who wins now. But all the boorish Pens bandwagon fans make the Red Wings my second favorite team.

  3. im not, go pens!

    dallas will beat detroit anyway

  4. simple.  all these idiots who claim bandwagon fan dont know that ive been a fan since i went to a game when i was eight, against the blackhawks in 1985. i will admit like most pittsburghers i dont think hockey season starts until after the steeler season ends.  it seems like all these people havent watched hockey since the post strike years. the penguins are really good, the east always plays a physical game where the west plays a wide open skill game if the pens were in the western conference this year they would have lost 15 games. talk about a balanced team this is the best penguins team i have ever seen. they will win the cup.

P.S. jagr has been a whinny prick since he cut his mullet.

  5. Wah-wah...want your lolly?

  6. Dallas is not out but..

Detroit should just win..& get it over with.... maybe they can suck next year for once.

  7. ...jealousy my friend jealousy.

Actually, if the Wings make it through to the finals, they WILL make a formidable opponent. They have a stellar goalie tandem, an awesome defensive core (who is not injured might I add), and some true scoring prowess. They are a force to be reckoned with. HOWEVER... They, as the Stars are showing, are NOT invincible. They can be beaten with a strong work ethic, true grit, never-ending determination, lots of luck, lots of skill, and a (here comes the most trite comment of the playoffs) "60-minute game." It will by NO MEANS be an easy task. By no stretch of the imagination will it be an easy one... the Penguins remember have been minimally challenged to this point. SOoOOo we shall see what the final result will be. I am a Penguins fan first, and forever, but I am a Wings fan as well. It will be a good series none-the-less but regardless of the result, I will still have to drive to and from work each day, will still have to earn a paycheck, will still have to clean the house etc. etc... but won't it make it THAT much sweeter to do those things if your team wins??!?!?!!?  :)  Good luck, no matter who you root for. This is Hockey at its finest!!!

  8. pens were the hottest team in the 2nd half of the season. some locals were calling for therrians head .id say they re the hottest team going into and through the playoffs. if they can split the first 2 games they got it.

  9. They're afraid of the Penguins and are trying to sound tough.

The Pens are gonna hit the Redwings like a ton of bricks.

    Go Pens!

  10. i'm not. i am a diehard flyers fan and i hope to get beat by the best! best of luck to the pens

  11. Because  Pittsburgh sports fans are so loyal and vocal....I've

lived in the DC area since before Crosby was born, but grew up in PGH.  I never lost my enthusiasm for the Steelers and Pens.  In fact, Caps hockey fans hate us so much because we fill the Caps arena more than they do when the two teams play here in DC.  If you walk my community you see Pittsburgh team paraphernalia everywhere.  And for the people who claim we are fair weather fans really don't know all the facts.  I was sitting in the then Civic Arena (now Mellon Arena) way back when the Pens were 16 out of 16 teams (pre-Mario) and I know my family and friends never stopped supporting them.

PGH fans do not like Jagr because he dissed them AND the team.  He was our golden boy back when he couldn't even speak English, but HE turned on us first.  So of course fans are upset.  It was like a divorce!

As far a Crosby is concerned.  It must be jealousy.  Any team would love to have him, and remember he's not even 21 yet!  He's just a kid and he's the captain of a NHL team! Plus whenever I hear him speak to the media his maturity shocks me. Could you do that?  Where were all of you when you were 20 years old?  He should be praised for how he's handled the pressure so far.

  12. they think the Penguins are too young and not ready to win the cup...wait and see, the next couple of weeks will be awesome!

  13. Pittsburgh has had a pretty easy path so far.  The Flyers were the worst record last year, just snuck into the playoffs and had their best players hurt.  That was no test.  Ottawa was real cake, need I say more.  The Rangers got weighed down by their money belts again, plus they were too busy pointing fingers.  I agree that Detroit is not there yet.  They have all the talent in the world, but only a two bit goalie.  Dallas, well who knows?  Those are the main reasons though.  If they don't win the cup, those people will say they were frauds and lucky.  That's life!

  14. ityegirl, steelern... and pengoOin all have very insightful comments. postal p - if the flyers were so bad, how were they able to beat Washington and Montreal? Wasn't Montreal the #1 seed? It's true they lost their two best defensemen, but they weren't the better team aginst Pittsburgh. So the question remains - were the Pens that good in their run so far, or were their opponents so bad? As a Penguin fan going back to their inception in 1967 (and not a recent bandwagon jumper), I think the Pens are playing very sound, solid defensive hockey....and with their team speed and offensive capabilities, along with MAF playing at a high level, they can present a formidable foe to either Dallas or Detroit. I still think Detroit has the better squad and will win their series (not trying to dis Dallas fans here - Turco stole the game Saturday), and it will be interesting to see how they handle the Pens offensive attack and speed. I think many people would give the advantage to Detroit in the series because of their success, not only this year but over the recent span of years (while Pgh hasn't been here since the early 90's). They also have several high-impact scorers, seasoned veterans on defense and strong special teams play. The present Pens are unproven, this being their first Stanley Cup final series, so, regardless of having Malkin, Crosby, MAF et al, they will be the underdogs. But don't be surprised if these Pens overcome their inexperience and turn some heads. Penalties, bad bounces, injuries and just plain hockey luck may influence this series, but regardless of who you root for, isn't this what a true hockey fan wants to see - two evenly matched teams with some of the best players in the NHL going at it? Sit back and enjoy.

To Adriana L.....I have met Sidney Crosby, and I can say he is neither arrogant nor cocky. Ask the Make-A-Wish children what they think of him as he patiently met and talked at length with each child, signing autographs and taking pictures. He is mature well beyond his years.

  15. they're jealous.

    simple as that.

  16. there's plenty of reasons people don't want to give the Penguins credit. Jealousy being one.

I personally think Detroit is too stuck in their ways to change how they play against Pittsburgh.
