  1. Probably because people care about good grammar.  Have you even noticed how much everyday language has devolved in the last 20 years?

You can't be serious, brother.  You ask people a question in Education and Reference and then make fun of their answers.

    You're making us look bad.

  2. Try getting a job speaking like that at an interview - and you might be in for a shock at how people perceive your level of education or your abilities.

You also appear to think that most other people speak the same as you - well some do, but the rest of the world speaks differently and to be understood further afield than in your own little bit of the world you really need to learn proper English - that is after all why you learn it at school.

It may interest you (or not as the case may be) that I have never heard anyone say Wuz up in my entire life. If I spoke to you in my local regional dialect of English you would perhaps understand as much as I can in your dialect. "Hey you! ya radge! Dae ye ken ye soond like a richt eejit?"

This section is Education and Reference / Words and Word Play where people try to give advice on things like grammar and spelling / words and their meanings etc. Have you ever thought that someone might want to help you improve yourself? This is Yahoo Answers, where people ask questions and others answer them to the best of their knowledge. If you are such a know-it-all why bother asking? You appear to think you know everything anyway.

As for your racism, well that's another thing you need to think about!

  3. Probably for a few reasons.

    1) Some people take proper grammar pretty seriously and do not like to see people butchering it.

    2) What you practice now will likely carry over into future usage which will water down the English language, so it is actually for your benefit.

    3) Failure to care about proper grammar shows a certain level of laziness.  It is one thing if you do not know any better and use improper word form, but, by your own admission, you know what the right spelling is and choose not to.

For example, in your sentence above "now if your in school then yea u need to spell right then but this is the computer..."  It should actually be "Now if you're in school then yeah you need to spell correctly then but this is the computer."

Your shows possession whereas you're is a contraction of you are.  Yea is usually used in situations contending to do with votes; Yeah is used as a colloquial form of yes.

    Do you see a difference?

  4. Because it's ignorant and it sounds terrible.

  5. You are right when you say that people speak and write differently in different places -- in school vs. hanging out in the park, or texting your friends vs. writing a letter to a stranger.

The issue crops up when different people decide to use one level of formality when other people think that a different level should be used.  Your opinion is that because "this is a computer", then you should just use your normal texting/hanging-out/quick&easy shorthand.  And other people think that because this is an environment where we have no idea who you are, or whether something you're saying is a joke or serious, then you should lean towards a more formal and less familiar way of expressing things, in order to minimize confusion.

    Here's my take on it:

When someone types in texting shorthand, with no capitalization, no punctuation, and lots of intentional or accidental misspellings, it takes me at least twice as long to read it as it would if they had written it correctly.  When letters are missing, I have to fill them in myself, and often there is more than one possible word that the writer could I have meant.  I have to read his mind to figure it out.  And when there is no punctuation, it comes across as one long droning set of words, with no pauses to group phrases or thoughts together.  Again, I have to imagine where the punctuation should go -- and if I guess wrong, I could be completely changing the intended meaning.

Having nothing else to base an opinion on, since I have never met or talked with the writer of that type of message, my first impression is that either he is an idiot and really doesn't know how to speak or write correctly, or that he does know but is just too inconsiderate of his audience to bother.  He does it the fast and easy and sloppy way, and doesn't care that it takes other people extra time and effort to try to translate his shorthand into something more recognizable as "English".

  6. Sometimes it's hard to understand what the person is trying to say.

And then there are some people that like to feel that they are always right and in control. They feel good criticising others. It's just for their own ego. So ignore them.

There are also those who are out to change the world. And they do that for everything, including correcting everyones grammar.
