Some people say it's because of the dollar but I thought they were worth the same now? Even makeup brands I buy that are Canadian to begin with are more expensive in Canada than USA.

  1. (psst the taxes are additional and not every province has PST)  it is actually because in most cases Canada does not import directly.   Most imported goods are actually brought through the USA.  Duties and shipping costs add to the totals in some, not all cases.

GST and PST do not actually factor into health care.  The entire socialist argument has no merit.   GST is 5%, PST is anywhere from 0-8%.  GST is not charged to necessities like food and books.  Thus there is no bearing on taxes in those instances.

For the most part the inequality is  based upon purchasing power.  Likewise in many cases Canada does not manufacture.  Canada is predominantly primary industry.  Because most of out goods are in fact imported, we pay more.

  2. That's socialism for ya. Higher taxes, higher prices, lower PPP, lower consumption, lower GDP - which amounts to lower wages, lower PPP, lower consumption, lower GDP etc. etc.

It's a downward spiral if Obama should be elected into office.

  3. Many live on government assistance when there is no work or during off season (farmers) and the government has to get that money from somewhere. Let's here it for socialism.

  4. Someone has to pay for all these social programs. There is such thing as "free healthcare".

  5. They have to pay for that 'free' healthcare some way.

  6. becuase of more taxes in Canada then USA, GST PST is higher in Canada
