Why is evolution such a widely accepted theory?

If science is something you can test, repeat and observe. You cant test repeat or observe evolution or a monky turning into a human being. and why are monkeys still on this planet them. To me evolution can just be as far-fetched as the creationists point of view. I am a christian and i believe God created the world

We didn't evolve from all monkeys. We took a different path down than them. Its a popular misconception that our great-great-great-great-great-great-(etc... are monkeys because then there wouldn't be gorillaras around any more! Further more, it is accepted because of fossils showing different stages in animals lives.

You have to think in large numbers and long periods of time. We don't see dinosaurs anymore, but from their bones and are understanding of current biology we can guess what they looked like. You see God did create everything including the DNA combinations you and I are made of. The thing is he created a living planet that changes based on many factors including human freewill. The building blocks of every animal past, present and future are in us, but they are assembled differently based on our environment. With science we can better understand how the pieces are put together.

Several reasons and sometimes they aren't even closely related:

People think that they are "too superior" to be subject to a god.  They are too "stiffed necked and rebellious" to believe that they are anything but the "top of the heap".

There are parts of "evolution" which make sense and are believable such as minor changes in animals because of where they live or the conditions in which they survive.   For instance, if the weather is harshly cold, all of the offspring of an animal who aren't adapted to cold will die while those who are adapted to the cold will live and reproduce, giving their offspring those traits which allowed the parent to survive.  If the person sees this happening, he may think that the precess goes even further and species themselves change into other species.

Sometimes people just can't come up to the level of morality that a religion teaches and they need an excuse for their own shortcomings.  Evolution and the rest of man-made science fits the bill as an excuse for their lack of morals and ethics.

Some people are just not brought up with any education in anything except evolution (the complete "monkey to man" thing, not the adaptation true science).

Sometimes people are just indoctinated into "man-made" religion and the teachings are those of ignorant fanatics who are creating their own ways and theology.  these people can be lost to the first arguement that makes any sense to them, even if it goes against their religious education.

There is evidence of evolution :)  

Humans are just a different breed of monkey, just as there are baboons, gorillas, chimps, etc :)  That's why you can't observe a monkey turning into a human.  They're a different species ;)

One way you can see evolution in human beings is to look at homes from the past (say, wild west days).  Have you ever noticed how low the ceilings and doorways were?  It's because we used to be a lot shorter.   Are you taller then one of your parents?  Almost everyone is!  Evolution is slowly making us taller and that is something we can observe easily :)

But evolution has been observed. Those "monkey" to human fossils are found all over the internet. We came from common ancestor, we did not come from monkeys. Evolution is supported by overwhelming evidence, it is not exactly as "far-fetched" like creationism, and its so-called "proofs".

Evolution and creation do not overlap, if god does exist, he might have worked through science to achieve life. Not "believing"(more like understanding) in evolution is like denying gravity. You cannot deny gravity because we are under effect, same goes with evolution. You cant "observe" it? Why dont you go to a science lab or at least a grab a biology text book?

I am a Christian too.

Actually science proves God and God proves Science. God is a God of order. A slight change of carbon in our atmospher would blow up the planet. God keeps the universe in order.

I personally am a creationist/evolutionist. It is really a shame that schools don't add that creation is another way the world could of been made, We don't live in a Christian country  now.

Only a creator, higher power could of set our world in motion and if it were seven days of seven zillion trillion years, it is still created by God.

Remember in the monkeys there is a missing link. God chose humans and gave us a soul and spirit and a choice of life and not justs route like animals.

the thing is you think it is a ''theory'' as in its a guess.. but it is not a guess, scientific theory come from lots of research, creationists usually say ''evolution is only a theory'' as to disprove it.

there are lots of other scientific theory's. like the theory of gravity... even though its is only a theory you can still see how things fall to the floor when you drop them, but remember... it is only a theory.

there are two types of evolution, 1 is macro evolution... that's when monkeys turn in to people. and you have micro evolution, when a virus or germ mutates in to another strain. so... there is proof of micro evolution, we have observed how one micro organism can mutate in to another, now macro evolution is simply a lot of micro evolutions.

in other words, you have children, and your children are 0.0001% different to you in there DNA structure, when they have children, there DNA is 0.0001% different to them but 0.0002% different to you... after this process is repeated for millions of years and your 100.000th child of a child of a child is born, he is still only 0.0001% different to his father, but is 10% different to you.

as i said there are many scientific theory's. a scientific theory is a series of observed related events, the theory is based on accumulated evidence, laws of physics and facts, and then agreed and reviewed by multiple scientists. here are some more scientific facts:

- the theory of gravity.

- germ theory.

- the theory of electromagnetism.

- the theory of atomics.

- the theory of heliocentric-ism.

even though the theory of gravity is only a theory it is also a fact. the same goes for all the other theory's i just mentioned.

you can get a virus or a cold, electricity is real, you can get atomic explosions, and the earth orbits the sun... even though these things are scientific theory they are also fact.

the reason religion disputes this is because religion has had to adapt to survive, people used to believe that god lived in the clouds, but as science proved hi didn't and that we actually live in a solar system, religion adapted... they started saying god is in the heavens ''stars/Galaxy's'' and as sience proved that to be false it is not commun to hear reverands, pastors and preists say that god exists outside of our universe, the problem DNA and evolution brings to religion is it just messes with there story too much for them to adapt, they have no excuses left. it proves that we dont all come from adam and eve, it proves god did not creat us but that infact we evolved and it fundamentaly brakes down there argument. why arent religious people happy about this?

the reason it is so much of a problem for them is religion is basically a lie, the reason they want and need you to agree with them is if more people believe what the pope says rather than what the prime minister or president of the country says it gives religion a chance to take over and asume power. religion is basically a back door to power for the people at the top of the religion, there are many examples of how religion affects laws and politics, for example the controversy over g*y mariedge and that evolution shoudl not be tought in schools and now is tought in most schools but some have to say ''its a theory''.

Why is this question asked in philosophy?

Evolution is a scientific theory because it is the best explanation of the massive investigations done into it. Every discipline in science; every culture in the world; every religion has contributed to the research and found that evolution is true. DNA does prove, so does carbon dating, so does paleontology; and so many others. If they are wrong and god is real then it is a very malevolent being because deluding people. If god is a loving being that is a massive contradiction.

You are a christian, that's fine however do not let you supernatural beliefs get in the was of reality.

What God has created is what has evolved from God.

Did the mother and father create a child or did it evolve?

Is delivery of a child an evolution or a creation?

Is continuity and progeny an accident or a design?

         These are a process.  A process of differentiation.  A River starting from its source has plenty of water and is together.  When it finds its gradient, it splits into tributeries, finds is storing places in many many houses and places around it, it becomes drops in the end and even dry up.   That is differentiation.  

       A bubble of air is a part of the vast atmosphere called air.  It is a differentiated particle of the air.  It was neither created by air nor evolved from it.  It differentiated on its own and can join back once it comes in contact with the main stream of air.  

       Even Fire can behave similarly, if we show a burning matchstick on the fumes of fire recently put off, the fire from the stick will travel through the fumes and back to again kindle the fire.  

       Ether is the source of all life.   That itself is the life giving force.  Gravitation, magnetism, electricity and all other powers of cognizance etc are its attributes, including life.   It differentiates on its own into lower particles.  In the process at the larger scale, galaxies, and stars and planets are formed.  In a little different magnitude, planets like earth and vegetation and creatures in it are formed.   In a little more micro level, the complete image of ether ( the other than physical attributes of human beings) human beings formed, each of its parts took shape under specific combinations of joining together of the five basic and other elements.   Beyond that still is a micro level where micro organisms live which are replicas of the world and the larger organism in it.   We call it molecules, atoms and the like.  Each of these microorganisms are a world in itself.   It is like looking into a mirror and seeing in the reflection of the eye there is yet another reflection of the persons and in the reflection there is yet another eye of the person and in that eye of the person there is yet another reflection.........it goes on and on according to how much you can magnify the smallest of the small.  

          Creator and evolver are the same.  Creating and evolving are the same process.   One thinks that anything can be moved only if there is an external force applied on it.  And those are the ones who believe in creation.  Others think that it is coming from inside and therefore there is no need for a prime mover and therefore evolve on its own.   We have seen in human beings a power in him which is desire which causes,necessitates,  him to invent, to discover, to acquire, to accumulate wealth, and  to all kinds of activities.  This has caused by the ether inside him prevailing as mind, cognizance, intelligence and the like attributes, arising the inquisitiveness,  the cause for science and its inventions.  Each activity of human being is a creation in itself, when we forget that all creations by human beings are recreations including science.  All inventions are reinventions and all discoveries are rediscoveries.  

           At the macrocosmic level, the same ether which has magnanimous powers because it is a conglomeration of all the souls and all the powers of human beings, animals, all their metaphysical qualities and attributes put together is the macrocosmic soul or the macrocosmic ether which is spread over the galaxies and the universe everywhere from distant quasars, pulsars to black holes and distant stars and galaxies. In that level when that cosmic souls use their power of desire cumulatively, it is called Iccha Shakthi (Power of Desire or the Will of God as commonly understood) then the ocean of souls differentiates into smaller and smaller particles to evolve as organisms and to be inside those organism. Thus God is outside as well as inside everyone.     Which is a gaseous mass and its self propelled rotation causes other forces like gravitation, and the like and become cause for creation of other gases, and from gases to water and from water to other elements including what we call earth or the element earth. Its various permutation and combination brings in different variety of microorganisms including the organs of human being.   Human beings evolved so can be called created because it appeared from nothing.   Therefore, evolution and creations are one and the same thing.  To try to differentiate between the two is as futile as trying to differentiate which came first the day or the night, which came first the egg or the chicken, who came first the father or the son?(because son grew up into a father to bring in(cause for creation of) son).   Look at the near death experiences, you will hear them tell you of a white halo prevailing all over the body and trying to join with a white gaseous presence which is full of bliss and trying to take you in its lap

we know that 10,000 or 50,000 years ago mankind did not have the science and technology of the present day. In those years we have created so many religions fought so many wars, and developed so much technology.

microwave, internet, i-pod, space rockets, mars probes, cloning and bio-mechanical organs, daring task to estimate of the mass of universe are all the result of science.

At this rate where do you think mankind will be in the next 50,000 years. Imagine USA having its own Sun, Japan making machines that turn mass into energy and back to mass for teleportation. China sending a million people to live on the Moon. And then the Super humans with super mechanical parts to help them survive in Space!

If God exists he is above and beyond science and does not intervene in our affairs so I would not spoil my sleep over what happened a couple of million years ago.

it always surprises me that creationist use such a fundamentally flawed argument. firstly evolution does not state that men are decended from monkeys - it states both have a common ancestor. secondly it is tantamont to saying if children descend from adults why are there still adults? new species evolve by splintering off from existing ones where population of organisms become isolated from the main branch of their family and acquire sufficient differences to remain forever distinct. the parent species may or may not survive indefinitely thereafter. its survival (or lack of) is completely separate from that of the new species.

If your god doesn't know how to do evolution, my God will teach him. It's really not that hard. Don't be afraid, chaos is merely order we don't understand. Science is revelation that is based upon God's written word, the world itself. Logos developed to mean the written word in ancient Greek, originally it meant ratio, proportion, the way things are. Also, God would appreciate it if you used proper capitalization, punctuation, and occasional spelling, when maligning the wonder of his creation. God created evolution! Don't panic, you did not come from a monkey, but from something even more primitive than a monkey, a common ancestor. My opinion should get 42 thumbs down:  This theory is acceptable to people who fail to, properly, use the gift of thinking and reasoning that God gave to them.  The prince of the power of the air has blinded them but, all they need do is use their free will to ask and God will enlighten them -- they are too proud to ask.

To the person who mentions gravity - did this, also, evolve?  Who can explain the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun causing earth's tides?  These are the only two planets which have an effect on our tides - wonder who decided the other plants should have no effect?
