Why is food and beer consumption such a big part of sporting events?

When you go to a sporting event everywhere you look there is food, beer and soda. People eat a great deal during sporting events and it is hard to imagine going to a game without food. One wonders it anyone would go these games if food and beer were not available. Why is this? Why do you think eating and drinking is such a big part of the appeal of pro sports games? Why is it that people are willing to pay such huge amounts of money for this food? Why is it that food offering is such a big part of the stadium/arena experience? Is it the tradition? The fact that eating is pleasurable and thus makes an event more fun? What do you think? I am hoping to get some well though answers as this is for a school project so none of this because people like it….

  1. $$$$$$$$$ Its all about the MONEY!!!!!!

  2. Pro sports exist to support the products sold at the stadium and pitched on television.  Isn't it great that in addition to all the wonderfull fluff provided at these events the producers include games to entertain us while we eat and drink the stuff?

  3. The game takes too long to finish and is too boring most of the time anyway.   What is a fan to do ?

  4. The audience is captive.  The concessions are another form of revenue generation.  Try to find a water fountain when they can charge $3 for a bottle of water.

  5. When you go to a sporting event it will usually take a good bit of your time, which usually means that you will be present during a meal. The food service industry knows that and knows that you are there and you will pay what price they put on a food or beverage item. This is usually a big day of revenue for them. Then our sense of smell and our eye sight get the best of us, as we walk by or see someone next to you with some food. You may also have the kids with you and it is very easy just to buy for them so you can watch the sporting event. When it comes to beer then this is a way for some to calm there nerves so they can either cheer their teams own (because any other time they wouldn't act a fool like that without the beer) or to relieve the pain when their team looses. Most places do not allow you to bring in outside foor or drink so there you are stuck paying there price. These prices are also paid because of the kind of money that has to be paid by the vendors just to have a booth or cart at a sporting event. The teams have to pay those million dollar salaries some how. There is another reason and that is we as a nation are addicted to sports, food and beer.

  6. I'm not quite sure. I'm more into the champagne and strawberry flavors at the Polo and Cricket matches.

  7. Remember is all bares down to DINERO!!

  8. Atmosphere

  9. Because those sporting events are boring on their own.
