Why is fox 6 changing to fox 5 and channel 6 to san diego 6? anyone knows?

  2. The reason for the change is based on the network affiliation with Fox Broadcasting. They are looking to try and move away from having foreign stations carrying American programming mainly because of the change over to Digital TV in February. Since Channel 6 is XETV which is a Mexican station, it isn't mandated into changing like US stations are. So Fox put out an offer to the San Diego market for other stations that would be interested in becoming the Fox affiliate once their contract with XETV expires.

    It's all about HD in this case - Channel 5 has the ability to broadcast in HD including their newscasts.

    It will be better for watching Fox shows like American Idol, NFL football, and such.

    Channel 6 has to drop the Fox name when the change takes place on August 1st.  So their new name is "San Diego 6" and obviously channel will be Fox so their new name is Fox 5.

    Don't know what will happen to the CW network that channel 5 was carrying - possibly k**i will take on that programming.
