Why is freedom to write and publish important?

Why is this true, important, and good?

In many oppressed countries, it is a crime, an offense, to speak your mind.  They can lock you up and throw away the key for being a disgruntled SUBJECT complaining about the government.  

In the USA and other FREE countries, we CITIZENS are the government and we have the right to voice our opinions and have information at our fingertips.

It's called the first amendment.

Yes, this is a GOOD thing.  We also have the freedom of information act and can order documents from the government like this fellow has done since he was 15 years old.

first of all because it is a right of freedom.

you should have the ability to get your opinions out however you want
