Gas is traded on commodities markets, and the more buyers there are for a product, the more the cost goes up.  Conversely, if you are trying to sell something that nobody wants, it will not sell for very much.  

There is a lot of demand for energy right now, including about 2 billion people just in India and China alone.  China is bringing 2 power plants a week on line to try to provide power for their nation.  With such great demand, the prices will go up, whether there is an oversupply or not.

Corporate greed and record oil company profits.... also paying off bush and cheney after their closed door energy agenda and conference.  Yeah you can thank our corrupt government officials and greed for the high gas prices.  Oh and while you are at it, you can thank NAFTA and other outsourcing of jobs to China and India  for high gas prices, sending all our good paying manufacturing and tech jobs overseas made it for the citizens of those countries able to afford cars and now there is more demand for gas from those countries.  it was a stupid move having all our good jobs outsourced.  Did you know that on average, the US consumer only saves 58 bucks a year buying cheap imported goods when a US made equivalent can be had?  Does anyone stop to think of all the fuel used to reimport chinese manufactured goods?

All of us need gas to get to work and keep our economy going, and the relatively fixed supply is getting squeezed by increasing demand, speculation, and limited refinery capacity.  Drill here; Drill everywhere; Drill now, before it is too late to save the nation from chaos. And tell that d---ed Harry Reid, oil and coal don't make us sick. They make our way of life here in the good old USA possible. If he wants to go back and live in the old stone age he can go there with my blessing, but dammit! I like having gasoline and electricity, and it would be lovely if we could afford it a while longer.
