if people would stay their *** at home, be more energy conscious & make every trip in their auto count. instead of driving down to the quickie mart, thats a block away, for a soda pop two or three times a day the demand would go down and the price would level out instead of changing daily.

partially demand is high and supply supposedly is low but it also doesn't help that we havent drilled for any domestic oil in forever or built any new refineries. want to fix it start drilling and driving a h**l of alot less so demand goes down

Perhaps Americans need to ask themselves the Flip Side question:

         Why has gas been so cheap in the US for so many decades compared to other countries, thus allowing Americans to be more wasteful of it than any other country and to become so dependent on it?

       American would  be much farther along energy efficiency wise if high taxes had been placed on gas all along.  We'd also have less commuter sprawl and more centralized communities (a healthy thing),  more efficient public transportation, less pollution to deal with, etc.

       America would be a healthier, better-organized society...

....if only we'd had a high tax on gas all along.  And all that tax money on gas could have gone towards something like health care, education, exploring alternative energy sources, or--hey, maybe even repairing the roads.

The question isn't "How do we lower gas prices?"  The question is "How do we reduce our fuel consumption?"

its going up because they have it drilled in peoples heads they must have it.....gotta go to parties, soccer games, etc....it will never end until people have maxed out their credit

boycotts strikes. don't use the gas mini marts for any purchases,ie:milk ect. drive them out of business. also start drilling here in America,

OK, forget the one day boycotts and strikes, they are useless. People need to just get off their lazy bums and walk or ride a bike everywhere possible. I know for some this isnt possible as they live too far from work, but seriously, if you live only 20 miles from work, why not ride. You will save money on gas, maintenance and insurance.

you will also do your part to save the environment just a bit more!

It's basic supply vs demand. It's not so much that the supply is low. It's that demand is so high world wide. With developing countries like China ( demand in China in 2003 was up 30%) and India demanding more and more oil.

Oil companies have no control over the price. It's traded on a global market. Oil is global.

The U.S. is the most explored country on the planet for oil. If we drilled on every inch of land. We still wouldn't have the oil we need to be oil independent.  If there was the 10 billion barrels of oil in Alaska that some have at best guessed. The most you could get on a good day would be 1 million barrels a day. That's just a drop in the bucket of what we use. In 2005 the demand for oil in the U.S. alone was almost 22 million barrels a day. The demand only goes up.

drilling in the ocean is exspensive.

We have to find a way to do without OIL!

because the arabs have found a way to  cripple our country without going to 9-1-1 extremes and what we need to do is quit selling all our oil from Alaska to the other countries and use it for our country as it was intended to be, we only get 5% of the oil from Alaska for our own country!!!

Domestic drilling is only going to make our energy woes decrease.

The only reason that we cannot drill domestically...is because  these environmental wackos have gotten their way.

According to these...(yeah,I call them idiots)...wacko's..we can't drill in Alaska..because it hurts the wildlife. In reality..the wildlife actually thrived in and around the Alaskan pipeline because of the heat source it provided...but the wacko's don't want to hear that.

According to these idiots...we can't drill in the gulf of Mexico..or off the coast of California because  all those ugly oil wells would be so unsightly. In reality..those so called "ugly oil wells"..would be about 200 miles off shore..and would never even have been seen by anybody on any coastline!...but..the wacko's don't want to hear that.

Do you realize that...there is enough discovered,untapped oil in the US..that it would be enough to produce over 110 billion..(yes a B..)..BILLION..barrels a day!!

That's enough to supply around 60 million vehicles for the next 60 years....but...need I repeat?...the wacko's don't want to hear that!

When I say "wacko"...I do also mean..those in Washington..who are also on the wacko environmentalist bandwagon.

So...you ask.."why is gas so high?"....now you know... this problem "could" be solved relatively simply!!...but....

Well, get this, the gas prices are NOT going up because there is a shortage of oil... Actually, the gas company is rising prices because they CAN. when gas becomes about 10.00 per gallon in the upcoming 10 years, the goverment will have to do somthing about it if we are still running of gas, because the gas company shouldnt be greedy and taking billions... Trillions of dollars away from people. So only god know what will happen
