Why is giving flowers considered an act of friendship,love etc?

it goes back to the old days when fresh flowers were a rarity and considered a really thoughtful gift.  it used to be extremely expensive to give flowers.  the notion that flowers are a wonderful gift never disappeared, that's why we still give them today.
