Question:

Why is global warming seen as a bad thing?

Just because the earth is a bit warmer doesn't mean that it's a bad thing. For example, agriculture in Europe has increased where a few centuries ago, it was cooler. Why can't the positive things of climate change be discussed? And about ice caps melting...uhh they don't tell you about all the ones that are forming...like the new ones off California.

  1. I think for the most part people are scared of change. The world is going through lots of changes like melting and the atmosphere is slowly going away. Honestly i don't think it'll really effect yours or my generation, but people want to help the generations in the future. :]

  2. Sorry if some people are calling you an idiot. You don't know and that's why you're asking.

Here is why: With global warming on the increase and species and their habitats on the decrease, chances for ecosystems to adapt naturally are diminishing, Glaciers are melting and sea levels are rising, causes extreme weather meaning more intense hurricanes, storms that may threaten coastal areas. Some areas will have more fires due to the draught like what we're experiencing in California every summer. It is predicted that rising temperatures brought on by human belching which brings out carbon dioxide and greenhouse effects can bring millions of earth dwellers such as plant and animals including humans to extinction.

  3. WOW, the polar bears are dying, the ice caps are melting which will make the earth over flood. OH YEA! and the atmosphere is diteriating.

  4. um there is no such thing As "global warming" the tempurature is the same as it has always been if global warming really starts to happen the there will be the rapture and all the saved christians will get swooped up to heaven

  5. U should read Field notes from a catastrophe: Man, Nature, and climate change by Elizabeth Kolbert...it explains everything

  6. Because the poor polar bears are loosing their habitat, and so are other animals. In our lifetime, we could die if the world gets too hot for us to live. Are there really any positives to global warming?

  7. Global warming is seen as a bad thing because, if it continues unchecked, it will render much of the earth unfit for its current uses, which will lead to shortages in food, water, and other natural resources.  For those of us in developed countries, the problems might be manageable and might simply mimic an economic recession for day-to-day impact during our lifetimes.  However, for people in less-developed countries, where they already experience problems in getting sufficient food and water for the population, that change could create a crisis.  Moreover, the problem with a human-driven change, which is what most experts hypothesize global warming is, is that we can't predict where it will end.  For example, I already live in a climate that experiences summer highs in the 110's- people literally die because of the heat.  As the temperature rises, so will the number of deaths due to heat.  Some people think that the recent super-storms are also driven by climate change, and they have caused devastation in terms of life lost and economic resources lost.  The loss of ice caps is significant because so much of the earth's fresh water resources are contained in those caps, and, as they become part of the ocean, it becomes that much more difficult to convert that into usable water.  So, those are some of the reasons that people view global warming as a bad thing.

  8. Because we are in a period where if you don't agree with me you are evil.  If I don't agree with you then I am foul.  Many folks take the extreme point of view base upon the above and having nothing to do with the truth or falsity, the validity or invalidity of their beliefs.  As long as you are evil and I am foul then we cannot discuss reasonably what must be discussed in order to resolve it.

  9. Is global warming bad?

The earth is naturally warmed by rays (or radiation) from the sun which pass through the earth's atmosphere and are reflected back out to space again.

The atmosphere's made up of layers of gases, some of which are called 'greenhouse gases'. They're mostly natural and make up a kind of thermal blanket over the earth.

This lets some of the rays back out of the atmosphere, keeping the earth at the right temperature for animals, plants and humans to survive (60°F/16°C).

So some global warming is good. But if extra greenhouse gases are made, the thermal blanket gets thicker and too much heat is kept in the earth's atmosphere. That's when global warming's bad.

  10. Because of all the activists who have nothing better to do than complain about i tlike Al Gore. The people who could easily argue with that statement are more focused on more important things like our oil crisis.

  11. Global Warming is seen as a bad thing becasue  the temperature of the earth is heating rapidly which is causing the artic to melt

if all the artic melts then the world will just be 100% water and will be impossible for humans to live on

  12. there will be a flood

  13. Because we will disappear from the earth faster.

  14. I think nearly everyone ans is 'hog-wash'.    First off the thermometer has only been around for less than 300 years.

according the those who believe in evolution this earth is 70 billion years old.   Therefore mankind has a record of the temp on the earth for only (300/70,000,000,000=.00000042%) of the time the earth has been around.   Now would any reasonable person assume anything based on .00000042% of the data.

This would be like betting on the winner of the World series after seeing one inning of one game of pre-season practice.

    WAKE UP PEOPLE

  15. Because it will allegedly melt the polar ice caps and flood the world, but then not too long ago the catastrophe people were pimping was global cooling, so I wouldn't be afraid.

  16. california and NY are starting to melt we will be under water and the sad thing is thatsome people are wasting time looking at the good instead of trying to correct the bad.

recycle use less gas, be eco-friendly!!!

  17. Where in California are ice caps forming?  On the mountains?  If so, are polar bears supposed to migrate to California now?

Yes, there are some "good" about global warming, as my bf and I were talking  about too just the other day.  But there are more negatives than the positives.  With melting ice, means less area for the penguins!  Higher water levels is also not good for many creatures on this planet.  Etc. etc.

  18. because a change of temperature of 6 degrees is extreme and can cause catastrophic problems like flooding new york. we might not be here it's just the matter of how to handle such an extreme change

  19. Everything will change. You may not see a difference now, but you will later. Since polar icecaps and all are melting, everything's going to rise, which will flood some of our land. Also, animals will die off. Certain ones that can only live in cold. Polar bears, etc...

Just because some are starting off in California, doesn't mean they will be as large as Antarctica. In Europe it may have positive affects, but in other places, not so much

  20. Because they are afraid new york, London, and la, is going to be under watter.  But hey its going to happen sooner or later.  the ice caps are making the earth wobble and sooner or later they will wobble in the way of the sun and it will happen.

  21. The best answer is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Global warming is why we exist now,  so how could it be bad?

We wouldn't be here if the Earth was still covered completely in ice as it was.

Gore thinks he's God and knows the future, but he did nothing for 8 years in office.

  22. People are making a big deal over a normal cycle.  The globe warms and then cools.  Next thing you know they are going to freak that an ice age is coming.

  23. If all the permanent ice (e.g. Antarctica and Greenland ice sheets) melts, many major cities will be under water.  Vast areas of land will disappear.  Vast areas of land which can barely sustain human life now will become completely uninhabitable, so millions will die and habitable parts of the world will be flooded with millions of refugees.  The world economy will be in ruins, so many more millions will die from poverty, quite possibly you and me.

  24. I'll tell you why, and it's not because we're all going to perish from massive flooding, melting ice caps, dying polar bears . . . That's all alarmist propaganda.  It's so bad because there's a push to make you believe that it's something that was caused by man and can be fixed by taxing you to death and restricting your freedom.  Warming of the planet has occurred before, and so has cooling.  It's a natural cycle in the life of the earth that alarmists tend to overlook and ignore.  The truth is, we've warmed some, but the impact that man has had (if any) is minimal at best.  We need to open our eyes to what whole movement will do if we allow ourselves to get caught up in it.  It will destroy freedom and our way of life as we know it.

  25. It's hugely contraoversial isn't it? Everyone is saying that it is a conspiracy by the Governements of the developed world to make people pay more for new "environmentally friendly cars/houses/clothes/bags" I suppose they have realised that saying cegerette smoking is bad has lowered the revenue from taxing smokers, so they need a new target, which seems to be motorists.

Personally, I like that wine is being produced in the arctic now. The vineyards are quite prolific

  26. People don't like change and they like to blame things on things.  It's hard for people to talk about positive things. Now I gotta go look into new ice caps forming off of California, didn't know about that one...

  27. i personally don't believe in global warming. even though people have been on this earth for what seems like a long time, it's really not compared to how long earth has existed. i'm no scientist or anything, but i do know that way back when there were still dinosaurs, the earth was a LOT warmer than it is today. really, i think it's just a cycle of warming and cooling that we haven't been around long enough to fully observe. not only that, i read somewhere that in some odd number of years the sun will have expanded out to mars. could that have anything to do with global warming? if the sun is expanding, obviously the earth will get warmer, and the heat will obviously begin to deplete the ozone layer. so, when it comes down to whether global warming is even true or not, it may be, or it could just be a cycle of life.

  28. cause the theory is that over time its gonna keep on getting warmer and warmer so all of the icecaps will melt and eventually  the earth will  become so hot  (supposedly) that it won't be able to sustain life. this is seen as a bad thing now because we take them as early signs of what the future has in store for us.

  29. Because

1ST OF ALL:It well cuz harm to the environment aside from beings themselves.

2ND:We will not be able to find other accomodation yet.

3RD:How r we supposed to ans to our descendents if they ask:"Y did we live here?"

That is why it is seen BAD and shuld be stopped immediately.

  30. Hello? Its still bad animals are becoming extinct because of it... all I know is that the world is getting worst every year..

  31. Becasue we have no control what happens with the planet and that scares us. We are after all scared little primates hurtling through space on a rock. We have no control of anythng period and that doesnt jive with the BS mentality that we are the be all end all.
