  1. gluten is not bad for everyone- just those that are intolerant to it.  it used to be thought of as only something that celiacs could not have, but research is showing that others are benefiting from eliminating gluten as well as other things like casein from their diet such as those suffering from autism.

  2. It depends if you are allergic or not.  Many people have trouble digesting gluten.  It is like a glue which inhibits nutrient assimilation and can cause intense inflammation, and therefore worse problems down the line, like chrohns disease or Irritable bowel syndrome or colitis.  Also, it is in many grains besides wheat...

  3. Some people have an allergy to it.  It's not bad for you at all if you have no allergy.  Wheat gluten is protein.

  4. Some people have allergies to gluten and require gluten free food.  For the majority of people, Gluten is fine.

  5. Gluten is only problematic if you have an allergy or sensitivity to it. Go ahead and try gluten free if you think you have an intolerance of some sort, but if you can eat it without problems it probably isn't worth the extra cash.

  6. Gluten is really only an issue if you have celiac disease or are allergic/sensitive to gluten.  Some people have a hard time digesting it and feel bloated after they eat it.  If gluten does not have that effect on you, there is no reason to avoid it.

Gluten-free has nothing to do with vegetarianism.

  7. Gluten is a protein found in wheat products.  For some people it is harmless but for some people, who have problems with gluten it can lead to serious gastrointestinal consequences and may even cause seizures and bipolar disorder in some people.  This seems to run in some families, including mine.    The tough thing about gluten is that it is included in so many foods, even ones you would not suspect.

  8. gluten is harder to digest- you don't get the good nutrients out of the food you eqat because you body has to deal with the gluten, which means that you don't get very full and tend to consume more food than you need.

  9. Unless u r allergic to it gluten is not bad for you. It occurs naturally in many types of cereals and humans have always digested gluten.
