  1. It goes back centuries, when God used to enter shill bids on eBay.  It was where he lived at the time.

  2. this is what it says about Godshill on the Isle of Wight

The origin of the name Godshill supposedly results from the foundations of the church being moved from the bottom to the top of the hill on three occasions whilst it was being built. This was taken to be a sign from God that the church should be built on the hill, hence the name Godshill.

so maybe it's just something to do with a church on top of a hill, so that the hill becomes "god's hill"

  3. It was the site of a small priory erected in the reign of Henry III.

  4. Quite possibly it was 'the god's hill' long before a Christian church was built on it. Churches often went onto pagan sites, often atop high hills. If its Godshill on the IOW we are talking about, there is a medieval wall painting inside the hilltop church called 'the Christ of the Lilies'. This type of painting was made in a place where some kind of miracle had occurred. unfortunately no records remain of what that was, and the image was foryears covered in whitewash.
