  1. Gold is beautiful by nature. Before smithsonian agreement, it was the basis for USD

  2. This is just an additional comment to that above:

Gold will not tarnish like silver.  It doesn't oxidize.  That's why it is prefered for electronic circuitry rather than silver.

  3. Gold is rarer than Silver

    Gold is stronger than Silver

Gold is the basis for all currencies

YES  GOLD has medicinal purposes - 1 is gold crown fillings in your teeth

  4. Gold is less abundant than silver, though usually less useful.  While gold does not tarnish it is difficult to work with and conducts electricity very efficiently.  Silver is more common for industrial uses.  All the elemental gold in the world, if melted to 24 karat quality, would fit inside a very large house.  That is the reason gold isn't used much.  It wouldn't take much to use the entire planetary supply.  It is also one of the reasons it is used from time to time to back currency.  If it were useful, like corn, then people would substitute corn for money and horde it causing starvation.  Gold is valuable in part because it is rare and it doesn't tarnish, but also because it is not that useful.
