  1. yech, I hate golf. It is BORING!!! Way too slow paced for me.

  2. While I am not saying that golf does not require a certain level of physical endurance, I believe tennis takes far more out of you than golf does. People who choose to play golf just prefers the social atmosphere of the sport. You can to be with your buddies and chat and have fun wile playing. Tennis on the other hand, requires a great deal of skill, focus, discipline and physical endurance if you want to win.

Most people would prefer spending their time on a cool, quiet, beautiful golf course, than spending a relaxing Saturday afternoon getting all sweaty and dehydrated from playing tennis. And for the ones who would prefer getting sweaty and playing a more physical sport, well those are they ones who will choose to play, basketball, football, soccer, hockey, rugby over a game of tennis.

I believe it all boils down to the fact that when you play tennis it's just you and your opponent, and both of you are separated by a net and playing on opposite sides of a court. Most sports, regardless of which team you are on, you get to be more active and socialize better with your buddies more so than tennis.

  3. alcohol is encouraged when golfing and golfing is more social (talking while riding in the cart between strokes)

Tennis is more physical and people aren't in shape to play

it is harder to find a tennis partner because:

    There are fewer potential players

You want someone on a similar skill level (no handicap system is in tennis)

There isn't a starter or marshall grouping all the single players into foursomes

  4. I think most people play sports they grew up playing.  Usually they started playing these sports with their dad.  I think more people have dad's who played golf than who played tennis.

Other factors like the nature of golf being more social than athletic and tennis requiring a fairly good level of overall fitness certainly contribute, but I think these are secondary to dad's influence.

  5. Tennis is  more physically demanding
