  1. Most of the republican voters I know put a lie to your question.

Ever spend any time at an environmental orientated outing?  I do way more than your average person (both for work and play). Most of the environmental nuts are driving the same largish, "look at me" all wheel or 4x4 capable cars.

Get outside more and look around.

  2. It's not "unfashionable" among Republicans but unlike the Democratic Party (which BTW was founded to promote slavery and also created the Ku Klux Klan), Republicans tend to have a bit of respect for the Bill of Rights.  What's "fashionable" among Democrats is the desire to micromanage the lives of other people.

  3. You're mistaken; almost every democrat in Chicago has an SUV. Very few of us Republicans around here, but tons of big vehicles.

  4. The problem is not that good fuel efficiency is unfashionable.  Most people want good fuel efficiency.  Who wouldn't?  What differs between Democrats and Repubicans is the belief that the government has some right or responsibility to tell a company what they have to produce or a person what they're allowed to drive.  Democrats mainly favor mandatory miles per gallon standards in the production and sale of vehicles.  Unfortunately, an increasing number of Republicans do as well.  The problem with this is, although it sounds nice and cheery, what is essentially happening is a widdling away of people's rights.  The government is forcing people to drive smaller more efficient cars.  Yes some people like smaller efficient cars.  But there are also people who like driving big SUV's for any number of reasons.  Why should the government have the right to restrict the purchase of that?  It takes away my freedom to buy what I choose and limits what is supposed to be a free market society.

  5. no idea where you got the idea that all Republicans were exactly the same.....but FWIW, this Republican is dying to buy a SmartCar

  6. I don't think that 'fashion' has anything at all to do with it.  Further, It's not a political party issue.  It's an issue of personal preference.  I drive a fuel efficient automobile, and none of my political preference had anything to do with my choice.  I choose to drive the car I drive, because it suits me and my situation. Nothing more.

  7. Erroneous assumption on your part.  Every Republican I know does more for the environment than any Democrat I know.  Dems are all talk and no action, unless they want to tell you what to do!

  8. Bill of Rights? Have you seen what Republicans like George W. Bush, d**k Cheney, John Ashcroft, Alberto Gonzales and Donald Rumsfeld have done to the Bill of Rights and the Consititution of the United States the past eight years? The only green Republicans are interested in is the mighty dollar.

  9. If you want a vehicle with high fuel efficiency, go out and buy one, but please allow me the freedom to buy the type of car I want as well.

  10. I think the reason why a lot of them look down on environmental measures is because, let's face it, far too many environmentalists turn environmentalism into a "guilt" issue rather than a "progress" issue.

I plan on going into environmental engineering as a career, but I see so many people in favor of environmental issues guilting the h**l out of people that it makes ME sick.  At times like these, I can hardly blame some people for shunning the whole thing.  I avoid religion for the exact same reason.

If you want people to take your side, stop chastising and start encouraging!  Changing to a greener lifestyle is good for both your health and your wallet, but nobody wants to risk becoming part of a group where people act like total a******s.
