  1. Ban them??  Heck..use more plastic and make them stronger!!  Darn things keep ripping open.

  2. Because we don't need to.

I would be in favor of them to encourage companies to make bio degradable items but to just slap a ban on something so useful c'mon.

  3. The government is an administrative body that doesn't have all the facts, environmental policy or agenda. People think plastic is convenient instead of understanding it is an oil product and a waste of resources. They don't recycle them and they end up in landfills. We make 5 trillion of them a year and could lower our carbon footprint immediately by eliminating them.

Vote and make the difference because San Francisco banned plastic bags, so did China. Governments need to lead from the front and protect the interests of the public. http://www.vipirg.ca/publications/pubs/s...

Good question and we all need to participate in the answer

  4. I kinda like the plastic bag my cereal comes in, along with so many other food products that are wrapped or packaged in plastic.

You know it kinda helps with the control on diseases and freshness.

The medical field is loaded with plastic for pretty much the same reason.

    Let's not forget the computer.

Yeah we should recycle more but doing away with plastic all together is just asking for trouble.

  5. because as it is harmfull like wise it is usefull too... think abt urself if you forgot to carry a  bag then what will hapen ????

atleast you will demand from those who u knows..but how many times they will provide you bag of cloth?? plastic bag is easy to carry once we used we can throw it too.. it s very cheaper than the bag of cloth..

  6. Why people throw all the responsibility on Government, I dont know.  Govt. have enacted laws banning plastic bags upto certain microlevels, appealed public to prohibit its use.  Its upon us to act as dutybound citizen.

  7. Let's start in the bathroom:  Deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, toothbrush holders, dental floss, trashcan/bag, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap dispenser, bathroom scale, bathroom rug, towel holders, shower head, shower curtain, shower caddies, toilet bowel brush, cleansers, blow driers, crimpers, curlers, clippers, brushes, combs, plumbing, clips to hold your mirror in place....you have any idea how much oil is required to melt and shape these products in metal and glass?

Edit:  Oh yeah, EVERYTHING is biodegradable given enough time.  Nature's cool like that.  Even the Great Wall of China will one day be dust.

  8. Follow the money trail. You've got oil men in office, they make money from those bags, and they're gonna keep making money from anything that uses oil.

  9. It's because plastic bags are recyclable and that they could just make new plastic bags.  What else do you think they're gonna make it out of.

  10. Ummm... In case you havent noticed, we live in America not Communist Russia, and theres this thing called freedom.

Why do you want the government to have control over your life. It aint your nanny.

  11. because they are using for many purporuse

  12. We would have to ban cars as well since most of the interior is made from forms of plastic.

  13. Because GW is a THEORY and to have laws made to help a THEORY is insane.

  14. Plastic bags are banned as such, but it has not been implemented strictly. It is the responsibility of the citizens and the companies to see to it that they dont use and make plastic bags respectively. Plastic bags chokes the drainage system of the country along with causing other harms like spreading toxin in the environment. Biodegradable plastic bags costilier to manufacture and may be not economical from the company point of view.

We need a major INNOVATION in this field. We have to find a cheaper version of plastic bags which are not harmful.

  15. I'm not sure about other countries, but in the US we have a thing called freedom and we don't like the government banning products that we like to use.

Besides, we recycle them and reuse them all the time.  Don't you?

Just about everything we use is made of plastic, which is an oil byproduct.  Banning plastic would mean getting rid of 99% of the things you own.   I doubt you want to do that.

Here's a cute clip from the late George Carlin.  Listen to the very end for a good note about plastics.

  16. Govt is not only responsible to the disaster due to plastics.

Govt does enacts laws to cut the usage of plastic in the day to day items. But these are not enforcing to every body.Banning plastics is a huge descicion as it directly affects the consumers, polymer industry & the end consumers. As still plastics & polybags are a convenient mode of transportation  & is much industry friendly & easy to produce & economically much viable.Plastics as a packaging material is much cheap & easily reproducible & easy to handle & light at weight.

So due to all these characteristics govt enacts laws to ban plastics but not a compulsory one.

But we can bring much needed stop to plastics or reduce the use of plastics. We can reuse the plastics we once use 7 use the min amount of plastics to get goods from grocery or shops. We need to dispose of the plastics responsible as they don't cause environmental disaster.

Another way is that govt & corporate house can encourage the use of paper bags & research in the development of renewable plastics & their adoption.Citizens must be taught the harmful effects of plastic usage & encourage the shops & consumers to use min plastics in packaging. They must be also disposed off safely.

  17. government gets excise duties, taxes from plastic manufacturing companies.

  18. if i remember correctly, San Francisco did ban plastic bags at grocery stores.

    gotta start somewhere.

  19. The government doesn't band the use of plastic bags, merely because that they emphasize there work greatly on the improvement of the economic of there country.

  20. Imagine the world without plastic.Plastic bags are recyclable

  21. Just because everyone knows that there is no use of banning it. Even though the government bans the usage of plastics still there is something known as corruption. and there are many people who illegally use plastics. More over its a fact that none can stop it, neither the police nor the government nor any kind of bans. In Kodaikanal, the usage of plastics is strictly banned to save its environment since it is a tourist spot(through out the year), but still people use plastics there. None are bothered and none think its their responsibility to go against this. Unbelievable but a true fact.
