Question:

Why is government so h**l bent on destroying Public Schools?

Parents who choose to send their children to Public School do so because they want to provide their children with the education which the state simply cannot. The state cannot, because it does not start with right "raw material" that is: Children that are supported by their parents who often are also the products of the Public School System. As a parent, I object to being taxed twice for education. I do not send my children to the state yet the government is threatening to remove charitable status from Public Schools if they do not take children from "disadvantaged" backgrounds. Thus, we fee parents are forced to off-set the costs of providing such a facility. I also object to "forcing" Public Schools to make their facilities to the wider community- We pay fees so that our children can be protected from outside influences. Is there no end to such unnatural and ill conceived social engineering.

  1. That's why I like Ron Paul for president.  Ron Paul would abolish the department of education and allow people at the local level to control their children’s education at higher quality and less cost. Everything the goverment touches turns into garbage!

  2. They may be h**l bent on destroying them but most still send their kids to them as they know the state system is failing and their children will not become victims.

We will soon be in the same position with health you get what you can afford.

The class system is alive and well as much as everyone tries to deny it.

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer that is the way of the world and will always be so.

  3. I do not understand question.

First of all public schools are state schools. Private are not. I chose to pay to be sure all my children obtain excellent educcation.   If you are unhappy with public school, ssend your child to a private school or go to  your legislator and senator and talk to them

  4. the government is h**l bent on destroying the whole country ....never mind the schools. they have possibly destroyed lives after losing that 2 discs !!

  5. Where do you live?  The public educational system in my state is top-notch - as such, there is a low percentage of families, even in very affluent demographics, that send their children to private institutions.

I'm not sure what you are referring to by the "wider community," and what exactly our children need protection from, but public school is supposed to be public.   Restricting access or forcing one person's agenda or limiting another's is not only practically impossible, its illogical.  Those who seek to shelter their children and not expose them to the society in which they live and will have to eventually exist independently should choose private schools where they can find an agreeable curriculum and agenda.

  6. Hey Americans!

We in Britain refer to the independent non-state sector as "Public Schools" and we have done since before your country existed.

Can I turn the question round? Can you justify why such organisations, which are patently not charities, should have charitable status? Can you explain why independent schools, charging fees to parents, should be given the same tax status as charities?

Surely this is an anomoly which can be easily sorted out by removing their charitable status.

There's nothing wrong with independent schools existing, but they can't expect subsidy from the state in the form of an inappropriate tax concession.

Your 'paying twice' argument is spurious. In that case why should the childless pay for education at all? Why should the healthy contribute to health care? Can those of us opposed to the war in Iraq not pay tax towards the armed forces?

No, of course not. We're a society and all taxpayers contribute to roads, health, education, defence according to ability to pay, not how much we use these services.

  7. There must be some confussion on what a "Public" school is and what a "Private" school is.

  8. Private schools make more money.

Educating our kids is expensive.  It is more expensive, and short sighted, to NOT educate them.  We should fund public schools first in the federal government, second we should take care of the nations health care, third should be our public infastructure,  and everything else is after that.

Good lord, return education to the local level, what a mess that would be.

  9. I can only guess what's going on now.

But when I went to school the whole racial thing was at a head and they literally divided the apartment complex I lived in down the line on which school kids were going to.

The school my group was sent to was a well-known area of KKK activity. Then they shipped in the inner-city kids.

It was a serious warzone. Gun/Knife checks - the whole bit. They still haven't admitted how badly they screwed up on that. One g*y dude was even shot by his own brother in class.

Then I moved into a area that was naturally diverse and it was more mellow then I thought possible.

My hate for controlling government freaks completely knows no limit.

  10. When you say "public" are you really talking about "private"? Because otherwise your q doesn't make a whole lotta sense...

  11. It costs too much to fund them. But I do not agree that they're "bent on destroying" them.

  12. Here is my take on public schools in America today. Before you can change the Public School System in the United States, you need to fix the American Public. This includes the parents, the teachers, and the classroom. I will answer this question in three parts.

First, you must fix the parents in the American Public. There are parents who are more concerned about what kind of car they drive to what they are going to eat for dinner, to their work priorities at their job to how they are going to pay the bills that they do not pay close attention to their kids education. IF you are a singe parent, you spend more time being concerned about work priorities that there are times you do not pay attention you your children’s education. In inner cities, parents sometimes do not care how their children do or if their children drop out of school. Parents in America are so concerned with other priorities sometime that they care more about their priorities then they do about their children’s education and when children do not perform well in the classroom, the parents blame the teachers and the school and do not realize that it is their responsibility as a parent to make sure that their child or children get the education they need to compete in the global economy we live in.

Second, you must fix the teachers in America Public Schools. I believe there are two types of teachers. The ones who are passionate about helping students succeed in the class and will stay after class to help students who are struggling and do not care about how much they get paid or do not teach for the money and there are teachers who are so concerned about just getting paid that if their students fail in the classroom, they do not take the responsibility to help their students. America Public Schools need teachers in both the Urban, Rural, and Inner City Schools to have teachers who are passionate about helping students succeed both in the classroom and in the global world because American students today are competing with students all over the world for jobs everywhere. I believe teachers need to show compassion to their students and help them any ways they can to succeed in the classroom

Finally, you must fix up the classroom. First, you need smaller classrooms where students can get the attention they need and teachers know the students names. Second, you need smaller textbooks with information that students can cover throughout the whole entire year instead of a larger textbook where half of the textbook is not used. Finally, you need classrooms with student who wants to learn how to succeed in today’s world but sadly you have some students who do not want to learn and believe education is a waste of their time until they end up working at a fast food restaurant for the rest of their life and can never move up the career ladder to success. Classrooms need to be a place where all students of all backgrounds can come together and learn how to succeed and have success in both the classroom and in the real world.

In conclusion, I believe that before you repair public schools, you must fix up the public. You need to make sure you have parents who are responsible for their child’s education, teachers who are passionate about educating students, and classrooms that everyone can deserve the same education.
