  1. What new thing isn't expensive?

  2. its all a money racket, what part don't you understand.

  3. Actually "green living" would be less expensive because it requires that you use less energy thereby paying less each month.

I think people get mixed up between "greenwash products" and true green living. Like the guy above said, most companies are looking at this as an opportunity to make additional profit.

Ex: green computer--- green car---- green this---green that

These are all consumer products that are toted as green but in reality it is just a clever marketing scheme to create a better public perception of the company. now granted there are some good energy saving products which are a little more expensive up front, but they save money down the live and end up being less expensive if you look at the entire life cycle. A good example is CFL and LED lights, although more expensive, they will save you more over time then continuing to use regular incandescent lights.

True green living is basically consuming less. This means using and buying less un-needed goods. however some purchases are warranted, such as material to make your home more energy efficient (radiant barrier, caulk, window films, insulation, etc..).

But a bamboo clad computer, although greener than other computers is still not as green as just making you existing computer last another 2 or 3 years.

  4. Its not, you can live off your own waste! Pee for a drink and poo for some lunch. You can also make a house from left over fries.

  5. Because it's trendy.  Thanks to the propaganda, people are willing to pay more for something with a "green" label.  The cost will drop as soon as the next fad comes along.

  6. Last I checked, it's way less expensive that the standard model of American materialistic consumerism. In what way is it costing you so much money that you feel the need to complain about it via the internet? Maybe I can give you some pointers to get you back on track.

As a final note, if you're wondering how living sustainably can be affordable, ask someone from the era of the great depression and two resource intensive world wars how much money they spent in a week. If you want environmental sustainability on the cheap, this generation knew how to get things done.
