  1. i've never found it hard to believe. everyone is mixed in this country.

  2. It is seen as romantic or exotic to be Native American, so many claim it.

Also, at one time light-skinned blacks would frequently claim other blood (Spanish, Greek, Native, anything dark but not African) to pass better in very racist society.

So, this can be doubted even today. Nonsense, a great many people are of course genuinely of mixed heritages of all kinds. But the stereotype remains about many people claiming to be native who were not.

  3. Wow!.A black pacific islander! That is the most fascinating kind of race.Very interesting. I am Persian and pacific islander. I'm from Guam. and i have a background of Iranian and Guamanian.I love this diverse America. And no I don't find it hard to believe that blacks have Native American in their blood because America is one of the most diverse countries ever.

  4. i dont think it is hard to believe, i just get tired of hearing it all the time. it seems like every black woman thinks she is part indian. most interbreeding between indians and blacks occured LONG LONG AGO. the majority of native americans have died out. unless you have had a geneology test, it would be hard to know you are native american.

  5. Who knows why. A lot of blacks have different backgrounds because of slavery. Many have European descendants for example. I have some Blackfoot indian in my bloodline from my moms side. People find it interesting.

  6. I think it is mostly ignorance of history. I am tribal too, and our tribe has many mixed-black/Indian as well as mixed-white/Indian. I agree with the previous responder....I think the mix is exotic.. Especially with the Pacific Islander blend.

  7. I'd have to agree with Jen.  If I had a penny for every black kid who claimed Native American blood in grade school I'd be rich.

I don't doubt you, I'm just saying that a lot of black people say this because they think it makes them cool, not because it's true.

  8. It's not hard for me to believe at all.

People can be idiots.  Get used to it.  Sorry.

  9. I don't get it either. It's funny really, blacks were persecuted in the 1800's when they mixed with Natives as well as the Natives they mixed with. Whites have for years tried to kill the Natives or "breed" them out of existence up to as recently as th 1980's. Now everyone of every ethnicity wants to claim they are Native or part Native.

There are quite a few true Black Indians or Black Natives out there, I am not discrediting your statement; but the majority it seems, is not truly Native, nor can they prove that they are part Native. The same goes for the white people.

I find it hilarious when a outward looking white person says they are part Creole and try to say that they are not part black.

  10. Why does it really matter what anyone else thinks of your lineage and heritage? If they don't believe you so what? If you know who you are then that is all that matters. If they are in denial of who they are then that's them. Life is too short to feed into ignorant peoples negativity.
