Why is hunting listed under outdoor "recreation"?

I understand the whole sport aspect, but when I'm out to fill my freezer in the fall, I really don't look at it as recreation. Shouldn't it be labeled "outdoor sports", or more accurately something along the lines of "providing for my wife and children"?

  1. Because you hunt outside.

  2. AND WHY DO WE PARK IN A DRIVEWAY, AND DRIVE ON A PARKWAY?

  3. This is as close as we'll get to having a forum on this topic. The libs that control this webpage probably couldn't take the heat they would get if they diversified "Outdoor Recreation".

We'll see "How To Defeat McCain/Palin '08" before we see "Shooting Sports".

Just my perception; I'm not always this cynical.

  4. If they put in food and drinks the vegitarians would go nuts and there would be even more trolling.  And it is also the de-facto gun questions and shooting sports forum.

  5. maybe they could just have a section called "Semantics As a Sport"

  6. ofp. sorry! Where to h**l ya huntin?

yahoo answers has it in the correct category you have to click on sport first, then outdoor recreation, break it down you are re-creating outdoor fun, then hunting.

If hunting is work maybe you should take up work to support your family. instead of taking a break from work setting in the great and beautiful outdoors. smelling the autumn smells and viewing a that beautiful display of colors.

  7. I don't know, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

  8. I think it is because Yahoo does not want to recognize hunting as a "sport".  Therefore, they call it recreation.  It's just a semantics thing.  I don't care what they call it as long as I have the forum in which to discuss, ask and answer questions on hunting and shooting.

  9. Because it's not only thrifty, healthy, and moral, ......it's fun, too!

Getting out in the woods, forgetting about work, becoming a PART of nature, enjoying the sights, the sounds, the smells, and the challenge of the hunt itself! If that isn't recreation, Man, I don't know what else is.....

    Except fishing!
