  1. Ice is hard - harder than most of the things you chew on a regular basis.  Much harder than hard candy.  That puts a lot of stress on your teeth.

Chewing ice can cause very small cracks and fractures in your tooth enamel which is the protective surface of your teeth.  Doing so can weaken your teeth significantly. It is very possible to break off small pieces of teeth over time when chomping down on ice.  You won't necessarily feel it or experience pain, but over time you (or your dentist) may notice chipped or rounding of teeth.

Chewing ice is really a habit that you should avoid.  If you like the cold, try shaved ice - or gum if you just really like the chewing.

A possibility to consider - craving and chewing ice is often associated with iron deficiency anemia.

  3. Because anything thats iced or really cold can cause your teeth to become sensitive.
