  1. Your question isn't very clear-but if your asking is identity important in a residential home-of course it is! Everyone one is an individual and their needs are different!

Some like to spend time with other people some like to be on their own.

Careworkers are trained to treat each person as an individual-good ones go the extra mile!!

  2. Most of us have good, clear reference points in our lives including family, friends and acquaintances, the ability to go out and socialise when we want to, peace from others when we want it.  This is perhaps less true of those in residential homes. In a home, you become one of many, with nurses caring for you but an awareness that they are caring for everyone in the same way so you are no longer as 'special' as you would be in a family.  This can have quite a depressing effect.    I'm not sure if you are talking about elderly people in which case you could help by talking about their past - their early lives will be very different from yours and most people like to talk about that (certainly my elderly parents loved to reminisce about childhood, when they met etc).  Also remember the things they tell you so that you can bring them up again.  It's possible to create a good bond by being interested and alert and taking a few minutes now and again to listen.
