  1. 1.1 Billion people, but sports aren't their expertise. How many Indians do you see in the NBA? NFL? MLB?

  2. Ok, you do not win the Olympics, you win individual events.  There is no such thing as winning the Olympics.

  3. india is really bad at everything except cricket. thats why.

  4. A lack of sports infrastructure and trains programs.

  5. Their hope was the same as any  other country - to win. Why they haven't is unknown to me.

India isn't the wealthiest country, but they do have interests in sports(for ex: they love cricket and soccer). I don't know what sports India is in since they don't show all the sports on tv (that is a pet peeve of mine). How come they only show a few??

    Back to your question,

(BEIJING, August 11) -- Upsets marked the third day of competition in the Olympic Shooting tournament.

India's Abhinav Bindra surprised all by winning the gold medal in the Men's 10m Air Rifle. Bindra shot a total of 700.5 to defeat favorite Zhu Qinan of China and Henri Hakkinen of Finland, who won the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Bindra's gold medal is the first time that an Indian athlete has won an individual Olympic gold medal. India's previous eight gold medals were all won in Hockey.

  6. India is terrible at sports.

  7. Probably lack of funding... and from what I perceive, the culture doesn't really emphasize many sports. Also, isn't the population heavily vegetarian? I haven't heard of Olympic athletes performing on that type of diet. Sounds like one wouldn't be very physically strong...
