Why is internet poker such a rip?

I mean, i`m a good player, bit above average, but i`ve just been completely ripped of by a dodgy poker site. I won`t go into the details but it was well obvious, no wonder America banned these sites, i play live games usually so it`s easy for me to understand how they are doing this, i just feel sorry for people who pump endless amounts of cash into these sites. Don`t be one of them.

It is tempting when you see a jackpot so large and the buy in so reasonable. Many people fall into the same trap so don't feel bad. The site can mathematically arrange things so that indeed there are some winners and they still make a huge profit. Kind of like the casino with a jackpot. Yes, they have to pay the jackpots but they still make lots of money. At least in a live casino you have a fighting chance. I do not see how anyone can put real cash in an on line casino. Why not just put your money in the shredder?

you say you have been ripped off but you won't mention the site...  if so you should have been playing at a reputable site such as pokerstars or fulltilt.

There are some VERY bad sites out there!

It's not Why is internet poker such a rip? It's Why are people so stupid? l play poker but i'd never put real money on any site. Sucker born every minute.

you are correct, you are basically playing against a computer and its 'plc 'needs to make its money out of people with gambling addiction in order to stay 'online' and rob other people who 'believe' they have a way of 'beating' it. The only 'winners' are the online gambling websites.

I don't get why you would play on a dodgy poker site, when there are so many legitimate and well known sites out there.

America didn't ban them because they thought they were dodgy, they enacted a rediculous and unreasonable anti-gambling law for puritan reasons (Frist said that gambling destroys families) but then legalized online horse race betting.

If the Bush administration hadn't been so shady and unconstitutional by changing the law in this underhanded way, right now we could have American sites to play poker on.  Companies like MGM and Harrah's could be running poker sites.  Taxed and regulated by the American government.
