  1. Karlovic's serve. He only had 7 aces that match (he averages 20 a match) and Murray was returning amazingly. In Federer's match, Karlovic had 22 aces I believe and Federer could not read Karlovic's serve at all.

  2. Murray has shown his class and almost beat Nadal in the open he deserves his success in spite of bad publicity.... he must have worked very hard to get to this stage of his career.... GOOD LUCK FOR TONITE ANDY.... 8 pm on sky sports extra

  3. Karlovic served like **** against Murray, he banged down about 3 aces cfomapred to 22 against Fed. That was one huge factor. He seriously served badly. And his ground strokes wernt that good either. Fed also played bad on big points when Murray didnt. But yeah it was pretty much just Ivos level of play. Murray got broken twice against Ivo and Fed not once- so that really shows how bad Ivo was serving.

  4. idk

  5. In the past, Federer had that fear factor going, such that opponents mentally beat themselves long before the actual match. They knew they had no chance against Federer, so naturally when the big points came around, they would lose.

Now, everyone feels they have a shot. So there is that extra motivation. They would now raise their game against Federer. Karlovic for once actually won the big points.

Against Murray, there is less motivation because Murray is not as big as Federer. In the past, they would have more fear against FEderer than against Murray. Now they have more motivation against him than Murray.

  6. There are many factors that could contribute to this kind of result... it's not just a matter of one player being better than the other because they managed to beat an opponent in one match that the other didn't... Roger Federer is still seeded much higher than Andy Murray and it will take far more than one tennis match to change this

  7. This is a good question. Federer could only break Karlovic's serve once, while Murray did it four times, twice in each set. Federer said that he could not read Karlovic's serve at all and had to practically guess. Murray on the other hand was returning almost every ball and got aced only six or seven times, while Karlovic had 22 aces against Federer. Of course you have to give credit to Murray; he is one of the best returners in the game and loves to take up a challenge like Karlovic. The reason for Federer's struggles I think may be attributed to his loss in confidence, which interfered with his usually great skill in reading serves.

  8. for same reason nadal beat federer but got schooled 2-0 by djorkovic.  theyre human

  9. Excellent question. I was wondering why myself. Karlovic didn't serve very well at all in the match and gave Murray a lot of second serves. Federer didn't seem to serve well but Karlovic made a ton of first serves and had 22 aces. Against Murray Karlovic missed first serves and missed easy volleys plus he only had like 5 aces. Not a good performance. Even though Federer isn't playing even nearly his best tennis Karlovic still had to have a little luck to beat him.
