Why is it Hillary and Obama and not Hillary and Barack?

Witness this sexism. Obama is never on a first name basis, whereas Clinton routinely is. The same thing happens in Canada and elsewhere. The women have to have a softer image and be referred to by their first names. The men anything but. I hate this and I think it is an example of blatant sexism. Don't you agree?

We say Hillary so we know which Clinton we are referring to. With Bill and Hillary together on the trail, it gets a little fuzzy which one is actually running for President.

No, I do not think it is sexism, blatant or otherwise.  I agree with those who say that it is to distinguish her from her husband.

In appropriate circumstances, this happens with men too.  For example, assume the Martin family has five boys, Abel, Baker, Charles, Donald, and Ephraim.

I call the house on the telephone and ask to speak to Mr. Martin.  How far do you think I would get?

I would agree with the answer above.  First of all I do hear people referring to her simply as Clinton.  But I think it's more about making sure we know which Clinton we are talking about.  Also, I think it is something that her campaign has started.  Just look at this campaign sign.

They want to differentiate her from her husband.  I think they also want people to refer to her by her first name because it gives her some sort of personality.  A lot of people have criticized her for not having much in the way of personality.
