Why is it a bad idea to make fun of nerds

I have a 1000 reasons why it's a bad idea to. However, all the reasons are quite far-fetched, but possible. So you tell me, why is it a bad idea to make fun of nerds?

Those nerds that you make fun of will one day turn out to be your boss or other higher authority. Suck up to them now and maybe you'll get a promotion in the future.

And it would be your luck that a far-fetched thing happens, say someone you use to make fun of becomes an Anti-terrorist assassin, gets out and decides to find and kill you, just for pleasure.
