Why is it a clothesline??

why is it a clothes line.would it not be better called an inside of your arm bone smasher.i think having gorier names would make the sport more s**y.my granny has stopped going now as she does not get damp enough due to it being boring.

Have you ever seen somebody running when the hit a literal clothesline that they didn't see? It looks exactly what a wrestling clothesline looks like.
