  1. Why do more people watch the Super Bowl than will watch ANY political debate? I think you're right about the Plato thing, here my take on Plato:

He realized that a republic and some form of democracy had potential if "the people" (interpret as you like) had the power. The problem is that when said population, "the people", are mostly idiots a lot of bad things can happen! Average society has always been stupid, but shows like "Are you smarter than a 5th grader" and "Real World" really have me worried.

I say this admitting to you that I lost a small bet on the Patriots and am regrettably a Chicago Cubs fan :( And one more point: A lot of politics in the US right now has got a real "smoke and mirrors" kind of feel to it anyway.

  2. because people are interested on simple matters and not on a complex matter like politics. people also felt that sports are more fun and that politics only brought depression and quarrel

  3. I think that most people (especially the common man) believe they know something about sports. They may know a few stats and other things about teams and players.

If you move into politics, people start to not always understand what is going on and how it will affect them. Politics is not something they can memorize numbers and argue about. Politics require thought, while sports can be pretty mindless.
