Why is it always cold down by the lake?

I live close to lake ontario and when i go down by the lake it turns sooo cold while i go back inland it get so hot?

  1. It can be one of the two answers:

    1) During spring, water takes more time to heat up and the air is cooler near water than inland. Or,

    2) Cold air sinks! One seems to forget that but, indeed, it does! One tend to think that the higher the altitude, the colder it will be. Not quite so if you are in a high pressure region with no or little wind. The air will then sink during the night from the mountain tops and into the valleys. Sometimes that sinking air can be so important that it creates winds that can reach gale forces in places like the coast of Greenland.
