Question:

Why is it bad for students to do bunny ears behind another child's head in a picture?

Today we had a assembly. At the end, I had all my second graders get up on stage so we could take a picture. The first picture was serious. In the second one, I told the kids they could be silly and so everyone of course stuck up bunny ears (two fingers behind another child's head).

The other teachers at the assembly started FREAKING OUT. They said it was against school policy and that it means something bad when one child does bunny ears behind another kids head.

I was confused and embarassed that I was corrected in front of my students :-(

  1. Political Correctness and Liberalism have made everyone so sensitive about every little thing.

  2. First of all, I think that it was totally inappropriate as a professional for fellow educators to correct you in front of your students. I see no problem with it. So many educators are afraid to let loose and try and relate to their students. This makes you a better teacher.

  3. I have no idea, I don't see it as wrong. It's just BUNNY ears. Not unless it means something else that I haven't heard. I have so many pictures of my children giving each other and me bunny ears. So I am just as stumped as you!

I don't think there is anything wrong with it, maybe ask some of the other teachers why they think it's wrong.

    Good Luck and God Bless

  4. There is nothing wrong with bunny ears.....its just that in some cases when you put 2 fingers behind a persons head (pardon my language) it means "turn around and kiss me"...especially in junior high.....so maybe the teachers were freaking out about that....I can't believe they got mad at inncoent children who knew nothing about the term....i dont think they had the right to correct you in front of your students....you should tell them that you had no idea i guess...i hope i helped

  5. im not sure either...im a student and once i did bunny ears to my friend and all the boys started laughing and when i asked why they were laughing they said it was reeallly rude but woulnd't tell me why.....

maybe its something to do with the playboy bunny? i remember hearing that

    xxxxxx

  6. The other teachers are off their rockers.  The only problem with bunny ears is that it ruins what is otherwise a serious picture. I think you did it great having both!  Very wise of you.  Tell the other teachers to get the stick out of their behinds.

  7. I would be confused and embarrassed too!  What a case of making a mountain out of a molehill!!!!

The only "bad" thing about putting bunny ears behind someone's head, is that it is disrespectful.....when you are taking a serious picture.

You were obviously doing a silly picture.  The kids are 7-8 years old.  Besides rolling their eyes and sticking out their tongues, one of the easiest ways to be silly is doing bunny ears.

I would make sure I brought this to the attention of the other teachers, AND your principal if I were you.  They were way off base and should get over it!!!  I hope you are able to settle this admirably and that they are able to see how silly they are being.  Good luck!!

  8. I never knew it meant anything besides just goofing off having fun with friends during picture day. I think people are making simple innocent things into something it's not. We as a society are sucking the fun and innocent out of everything. Tell them to get real .

  9. there aint nothin wrong wit it there's no bad meaning to it

  10. i would feel the same way too. maybe at the bottom of the picture write words expressing what is going on for that day.

  11. Apparently it means you want to get married to the person you do it to but alot of the kids do not know that. Why dont you tell them to do moose ears instead? Moose ears is when you stick up all your fingers with both hands. I dont see why it is bad for them to do bunny ears cuz thats kinda stupid of the teachers to do that

  12. the other teachers are idiots. as far as those kids are concerned and most parents as well, if it was a goofy pic then so be it, they were fine.  bunny ears are just that at that age BUNNY EARS.  your other teachers need to pull their heads out of the gutter apparently.

  13. it is not big time wrong, just very silly and a bit rude really. Sorry that you felt so embarrassed, but you did encourage then to be silly.

  14. it directly relates to the playboy bunny
