Why is it bad to freeze water in the plastic bottle?

My friend told me not to put my water bottle in the freezer a few years back. She explained why, but I don't remember. Can you guys jog my memory?

if u freeze water in a plastic bottle then let it thaw the certain materials in the bottle then mix in the water witch is unhealthy

Well obviously water expands when it turns into a solid. The newly frozen water that once fit in your container perfectly, will cause to bottle to stretch, crack, or explode.

Contrary to popular belief freezing water in the plastic bottle does nothing.

I live in a small hotel room and have a small fridge, freezer is just big enuf for 2 ice trays, so what i did was i got the manager to give me another fridge and i turned the temp to the coldest. Made my own freezer, so now i have one freezer and one fridge. I got tired of drinking luke warm tea so i cleaned out a milk jug and filled it with water (i left some space at the top for expansion, about 2-3 cups worth). Pop it in the freezer till it gets 1/2 frozen then make iced tea out of it. After tea is made, pop it in the fridge and fill another jug 2/3 full, pop it in the freezer. By the time i'm done with first jug, 2nd is 1/2 frozen.

Answer to your question.....theres no reason why you can't freeze water in a plastic jug.

i learned in science class but i don't remember.......but by my observations.......watter expands when it is frozen.........and never freeze carbonated drinks.......it'll expand a lot or even explode
