natural gas produce more energy but it is not recommended for climbing up into steep roads (ex. roads in the mountains). so the real question is, why is it that cars powered by natural gas is inappropriate for climbing up steep roads

  1. You need a greater amount of fuel to climb. Gas can provide the amount of energy as it has more btu's to it than the natural gas. It is just that it would require much much more natural gas to give you the same equivalent energy as gasoline. Your engine runs on a 13 to 14 part air to gasoline ratio.
