  1. French just as Spanish, Italian and Portuguese, are Latin Languages. And, each one of the Latin Languages have "a Feminine" form and "a Masculine" form of speech.

So, before speaking or writing something down, you must identify if "the thing" or if "the person" is masculine or feminine.

"La" is a Feminine Article or Pronoun, so it is: "La nuit".

-(Be careful, sometimes people get offended when talking to them in the wrong gender...)-

  2. night is expressed in the feminine way

  3. Because the word "nuit" is feminin ("la nuit") and the feminin adjective is "bonne."  Voila!!

  4. Because nuit is feminine

  5. I always thought it  was "Bon nuit".  Who knew the night was  female?!

  6. it's not a French caveman who decided this, but a Roman caveman. "la nuit" comes from the Latin "nox" which in Latin is feminine (ex.: Nox aeterna = eternal night).

  7. Because a French caveman decided that the noun "nuit" was feminine (hence, "la nuit") and the proper form of bon is "bonne" (feminine version).  In English, nouns are preceded by "the" and there is no such thing as masculine or feminine nouns.
