  1. 'steal' to 'create' another style doesn't make sense in MMA. You obviously know nothing about the sport. Its not a style. Its a sport.

The reason they call it MMA, is because they have a limited amount of rules, so anybody from any style can step into the cage and display their techniques. Alot of different styles are involved in the sport, so it is called 'mixed' martial arts. Alot of athletes cross train in different styles, because you have to be a well rounded fighter, and not a delusional 'one' style martial artist, like yourself. It doesn't get you by in the sport. You lose, because you are ill-educated/trained in other styles.

Why is there a predominant amount of fighters with judo, brazilian jiu jitsu, karate, muay thai, boxing, wrestling, sambo backgrounds? because thats what has been proven to work for the most part in the sport. You can be essentially from any background..You could be a street brawler with no martial arts background in MMA.. You could be a one trick pony from a rare, almost unheard of martial art from guam? You can be anybody and compete in MMA..You just have to win..Thats why we don't see many TMA in mma..They just can't win. It doesn't work in the sport.

You should stop being such a baby. Don't watch it, if you don't like it.

  2. well consider traditional martial arts it is said you should be rounded

    and cross train

thats what these guys do, they just don't get into the whole lifestyle they strickly come to learn some things and use them in fights

Bruce Lee is considered the father of MMA and hes one of the most traditional fighers ever

hes the guy who stated you need to not only focus on one form but many forms

you must be all and none at the same time

the concept of MMA is great, but the direction it went in isn't the greatest (see Kimbo Slice)

i practice MMA but the place i learn keeps it in a traditional dojo sense, he created a system using techniques from here and there, and teaches them in the traditional sense

  3. Well you're sounding a bit elitist there don't you think?

Let people enjoy whatever form they choose, even those who have parts of others stuck into them. Who cares? Unless you're an elitist, that is.

  4. The only reason I can think of for calling it mixed martial arts is because it is the most marketable way to brand it.  When most people think of martial arts they tend to think of the fighting, not the philosophies that accompany the styles.  When most people see a mix of different fighting styles, they'd assume that it would be safe to label it "mixed martial arts."

But, if MMA fights are disrespectful to martial artists, shouldn't points-fighting tournaments be considered disrespectful as well?  Aren't those tournaments based on the notion of earning more points than your opponent, while fighting in a safe, controlled environment?  Tell me how "the arts" come into play there.

The truth is that MMA isn't going anywhere.  "Real" martial arts styles aren't going anywhere.  Everyone's just going to have to make room for everyone else and play nice.  Isn't having respect for others and avoiding conflict one of the underlying philosophies in martial arts anyway?

  5. What makes you better than anyone else? It's what these guys choose to do for a living. Who are you to define what a true martial artist is? You have your reasons for training karate, they have their reasons for training in MMA. You keep doing karate for the reasons you choose, and guys like GSP and Anderson Silva will continue doing what they do for about  $250,000 a fight. Also, are your fighting techniques original to you? Did you create all of them yourself?? If not, then who did you steal yours from??

  6. mma takes the>>>>> PRACTICAL <<<<<fighting techniques(mma fighters dont need to know how to catch a sword or do forms around the ring) from all martial arts and uses them to their full advantage. mma started out with fighters only trained in one art and pretty soon everyone saw how good a grappler could just dominate a stand-up fighter, well pretty soon the stand-up fighter figured if he could learn some ground moves he could stay in the fight longer and vise versa for the grappler.

And, who's to say what technique belongs to what art? Every martial art has a basis in another discipline. KARATE IS STEALING PUNCHES AND KICKS FROM CAVEMAN-DO.

  7. You are wrong on that count. Many and most kung-fu systems utilize techniques from preexisting systems in addition to their own.

As for your karate... look up people like Mas Oyama, who can be considered a Mixed Martial Artist.

Discipline does not come from training martial arts any more than it does from baseball and other sports. Other such benefits vary widely, depending upon the individual.

  8. Well you probably should take a look at your own style and dump your elitist attitude.

Especially when you find your own style is also made up of borrowed techniques from other arts and styles formed together to be whichever version of Karate you are studying.

Every art is borrowed and taken from other Arts, and from what works.

Mixed Martial Arts is the term now a days, but pretty much every art has it's foundation in a founder who studied a few different styles and took what worked for him and called it his own style.

While we are on this, what gives you the sole right to judge any other style or individual for what they find enjoyment in?

I train MMA for more than just winning fights, and for the most important reason of all. I enjoy it, don't presume you know everyone else's intentions or purposes for taking arts, or that any one style can hold the position of being superior in every way.

My study of Bushido and my ethics come from my own personal journey with it, not from a Sensei attempting to ram it down my throat, or using Zen parables with every lesson, or because there are quotes on my dojo walls.

If you choose Karate for all the other reasons you think you get out of it, I would point that studying those things invidually on your own is much more rewarding. But far be it for me to judge anyone or how things they get out of the activities they do.

  9. It's what it is. It's Mixed Martial Arts. Maybe you're just jealous cause you can't hack it. It's people like you that ruin it for the rest of us. Hater.

  10. (gets up and applauds loudly, whistling and shouting... sees the rays of the sun bursting through the clouds and the sound of a thousand voices)

    You're my hero!

  11. wait, so you're a 12 year old whose mom enrolled you in karate classes a couple weeks ago and now you want to sh*t all over those who train in mma?  yeah, good luck with that

  12. Who can be an expert at all fighting styles? I'm happy that you train for "much more" but I have never heard of you and probably will never see you on tv. MMA is very entertaining and takes a lot of talent to be successful. The Karate Kid is the only famous person from the Karate world. Try your Karate in an MMA tournament and see how you do. I promise the Crane Kick won't help you.

  13. Because it is many martial arts mixed together. Mixed for mixed, and martial arts for martial arts, easy enough, no?

  14. funny thing the very thing you call martial arts such as karate has stolen techniques in it. MMA is like mixed nationalities, because someone is black and white doesnt make them any less than a fully black or white person. #1 art look @ jeet kun do bruce lee was the world's greatest martial arts and saw flaws in alot of arts and took the pro's of all of them to create a lethal and effective art.

  15. What about Bruce did he not mix martial arts to make his jeet  kune do  get outta here they all formed from one or the other its just evolution get over it it was a baby now its grown and alot of fun to watch and it don't pay to bad either better than some other sh  stuff like McDonald's

  16. Most martial arts are "copies" of others. Look at karate, it has many techniques also found in Kung Fu, you could also look at Judo it has many moves borrowed from Jiu Jitsu or kickboxing it is greatly influenced by Mauy Thai. There are many martial arts that very similar to each other, mixed martial arts isn't stolen techniques, it's MIXED Styles.

  17. You want to be artistic, paint a picture.  As for creating a new fighting system, nothing new has been invented in the last  several thousand years.  The one exception to that is the gun.   I hope they cover gun-disarms along with ground-fighting at your dojo.

Boxing and wrestling have been around for thousands of years.  Judo, kung fu, jiu-jitsu etc, have been around just as long.  Heck, Zulu stick fighting has been around for centuries.  Nothing is created out of thin air; people "keep what is useful", as Bruce Lee said.

The only is issue I have with MMA fighting is that you train to fight someone wearing swimming trunks.  That normally doesn't happen in real life.  However I am a fan, I love it (though I prefer submissions to knock-outs), so sorry Mr. Wallace, the genie isn't going back in the bottle.

  18. the key sentence in your paragraph was "winning fights" don't dis it til you've tried it.

  19. Legendary kickboxer and martial artist Bill "Superfoot" Wallace agrees with your position. He frequently writes articles for Black Belt magazine that are critical of mixed martial arts. He would like to see a return to martial arts as they were prior to the Mixed Martial Arts craze that began in the early 90s. I think that conventional martial arts taught by qualified instructors teach students to respect themselves and their opponents, and that they make students better people in the process. Mixed Martial Arts are sensationalized butt kicking contests that invite all kinds of unsavory characters into a sporting event to show how tough they are.
