Why is it called a beer nut?

Is it made with beer or just a nut you eat when drinking beer? In fact, I've never been to a bar that had them... is the "beer nut" an urban legend?

it's a peanut, roasted and glazed with the skin on. the skin adds a hint of bitterness, and the glaze is a sweet salty coating.  the combo of the nuts and beer tastes really good, and the salt makes you thirsty so you drink more beer.  they are tasty :)

I actually don't know why either. I think it's because they put the nuts there for you to eat. The salt makes you thirsty so that you can order more beer? Maybe... xD
