  1. Back when cars were new technology, the E brake was actually used for emergency braking. It's really not capable of stopping a vehicle anymore but it retains the name for some people.

  2. E brake overseas.......................

    Parking brake in the states....................

    Same thing in both places.........

  3. It is all down to terminology.

An E brake can also mean EXHAUST Brake where the exhaust fumes from the manifold gives back pressure directed back somehow onto the engine overrun so the driver of a truck does not have to apply his foot brake. The ins and outs of the exact workings of the brake are beyond me(Sunday afternoon where I am, lazy day down the pub?) but this is what i think you mean.

  4. OK a E brake it only come on if you Maine brakes fail it will

slow you down  but it wont stop you  and you start to slow by the hand brake and the gear box till you come to a safe stop but you must beak slow

  5. Well it is both.  In an emergency, say your brake fluid line ruptures, you can use your emergency brake to stop.  Your emergency/parking brake works on a cable system while your brakes in general work with fluids. But you also use it for parking safety.

  6. An emergency brake. It's to be used primarily when you are parked on a hill.

  7. "e" stands for "emergency".........you  have this extra "MANUAL" override to your braking system just in case your regular brakes fail...........lines could get cut from debris on the road, master cylinder could fail, electrical components could break down........

So, you have this hand-controlled (or foot) CABLE brake, similar to the  handbrake you would use on a bicycle handlebars, which you apply similar to how you would apply if riding a bicycle........get the FEEL of it to slow down and stop..........if you practice this from time to time, you will become comfortable handling this "e-brake". If your e-brake is on your console (between the front seats), then you can practice in an empty parking lot...........hold the button in and feather the lever in an up and down motion and feel the braking sensation in your car. Your car will take longer to slow down and stop, but at least you have some control.......another reason to follow further back from vehicles.

If you have the foot type "e-brake" on the floor to the left of your brake, then there are a couple of different types that I know of.......in one type of vehicle, you would hold the release lever up as you pump the e-brake with your left foot.

In the other type of vehicle, you would slightly press the e-brake to the first "click", then release ALMOST all the way off, and then you'll be able to pump the pedal with your left foot and bring your vehicle to a stop.

There are many types of "e-brakes".........some located on the dash, some you pull out to set, twist to release.

Get to know your vehicle's components. After all, you are the pilot! You have the responsibillity as a licenced driver to learn the skills necessary to maintain control of your vehicle......and drive within the limits of your skill level and the laws of physics.
