Why is it called a "telephone" when it has nothing to do with Tele?

  1. take dr. anders answer... it does come from 'tele' meaning from a distant, like telemetering - or getting the data (meter) from a distance.


  2. Tele means remote or distant in greek. Telephone means "distant hearing". Television means "distant seeing".
