Why is it called a t.v SET when you only have ONE?

just noticed it now....you only get ONE if buy a t.v SET.why is it like that?

Because it contains a set of components. I know TVs are just ordinary things now but when they were first available they were on the cutting edge. A set of componentry in a single box that provided both sound and pictures from signals in the air was absolutely mindblowing.
