  1. The original form of Root Beer was derived from various roots such as Sassafras and Ginger.


  2. it is made from sassafras root, you can make it at home like beer.

  3. Because it comes from the sasparilla plant which I believe is a root plant,  and when it's made into soda,  it gets the foam head similar to beer.

  7. Alana is right.  Sassafras root is no longer used in the production of root beer.  I believe that someone discovered that the roots and their bark is highly toxic.  Sassafras tea used to be brewed in the mountains as a "Spring Tonic."
