Question:

Why is it called "global" warming?

Why is it called global warming, when only the northern hemisphere has warmed substantially since 1980? The southern hemisphere is about the same or maybe slightly cooler. Maybe we should rename the theory, "Northern Warming Only, with Southern Cooling".

  1. I am glad Bob called Lindzen a reputable skeptic because he says there has not been statistically significant temperature changes since for the past 15 years.

  2. Because, averaged around the globe it's warming.

The Southern Hemisphere, with much more water, is warming more slowly, but, except for central Antarctica, it's still warming.

Reputable skeptics, like Richard Lindzen, don't dispute that.  It's a denier kind of thing.

  3. It's called global warming because all parts of the globe are slowly getting warmer and the polar ice caps are melting. The northern part of the globe is only warming up faster. As I said before, the southern part is only warming up slower than the northern.

  4. The fact that it is called Global Warming has bothered me, because you are right that it isn't "Warming" that we necessarily have to worry about.

It's "Global" because the environmental effects happen all over the world.

But it really should be called "Global Climate Change" or "destabilization" or something.

  5. Haven't you heard? The northern hemisphere is the only one that matters.

It's global warming because people in the USA and Europe tend to forget that there is an entire hemisphere under our own. It's dumb, I know, but what can you do?

  6. I don't know either...  4 out of the past 5 winters here in MN have been colder than the 100 year average.  This year was the 6th coldest on record in 140 years...

How come global warming happens everywhere else, but in MN?

Quebec, record snowfall.  China, record snowfall.  MN, record cold.

How come you never hear of record heat in the Sahara?  or Death Valley?  Wouldn't you think that if it truly were GW or AGW that the hottest places on earth would be 'hotter'...?

  7. It is the "BUTTERFLY EFFECT".  Things that effect one part of the world will have and equal effect on the opposite side.  We are one part of the whole puzzle, and all pieces must fit together correctly for it to be whole.  If one piece doesn't fit or is missing it effects the the entire puzzle.

  8. cuz the whole world is shallow

  9. Global sounds scarier, and possibly because altogether it is getting warmer, and eventually it will effect the entire world. It could also be because the entire world is contributing to it.

  10. because the whole world is warming.
