CHINA  CAN BE RECOGNIZED AS A REPUBLIC . BUT NOT ONE THAT IS DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC

There are only two forms of government - Republic and Monarchy. China doesn't have a king, queen, prince or sultan,  it has a president and is a republic regardless of the fact that it a communist one. While East Germany was under communist control it had the nerve to call itself the German Democratic Republic.
