  1. To expand on what Xtra B eluded to. The best players in the world play in MLB which is why it's so diverse with Latin, Asian, and American players. It's also the highest level of ball in the world which is why the best players from the Dominican and Japanese leagues (examples) come to the US to play.

    Examples:

    David Ortiz (Dominican)

    Ichiro (Japanese)

    Johan Santana (Venezuela)

    Andruw Jones (Netherlands)

    Jason Bay (Canada)

So the World Series is the culmination of the championship of the league with the top players in the world. Title Appropriate.

  2. Japan, dom rep, mexico, and Canada players (etc) all play in the MLB

  3. When it started American was basically the  noly place where baseball was prominant. Why change

Besides international players play. Look at last yr's World Series

    Boston:

    Julio Lugo (Dominican Republic)

    Eric Gagne (Canada)

    Javier Lopez (Puerto Rico)

    Daisuke Matsuzaka (Japan)

    Hideki Okajima (Japan)

    Julian Tavarez (Dominican Republic)

    Alex Cora (Puerto Rico)

    Mike Lowell (Puerto Rico)

    Manny Ramirez (Dominican Republic)

    David Ortiz (Dominican Republic)

    Colorado:

    Jeff Francis (Canada)

    Ubaldo Jimmenez (Dominican Republic)

    Franklin Morales (Venezuela)

    Elmer Dressens (Mexico)

    Denny Bautista (Dominican Republic)

    Manny Corpas (Panama)

    Jorge Julio (Venezuela)

    Juan Morrilo (Dominican Republic)

    Ramon Ortiz (Dominican Republic)

    Willy Tavarez (Dominican republic)

    Yorvit Torrealba (Venezuela)

    Kaz Matsui (Japan)

    Jeff Baker (Germany)

  4. Because when the championship series began (1902 or so) the game was played on a professional level only in the USA. So, if nothing else by default, the winning team was the "best in the world".  It was also a great marketing gimmick to promote the sport.  Besides, I seriously doubt any other country's pro teams to could stand up to ours on a day-to-day, season long basis.

Side note:  I hate short term playoffs -- the hottest team will will regardless of talent.  So, yes, a Japanese team might beat ours in a seven-game playoff and thus be the "World Champ".

  5. Because in the WS it is not just Americans playing.

When you get to the majors it means you are among the best in the world.

  6. Because people come from all over the world to play baseball in the United States and it is the highest baseball tournament. Just like american football they are always called world champions because it is the highest chpionshp you can win for these sports.

  7. Well the MLB is the premier league and for years people have come here to play baseball, so it's really about encompassing the best players there are..plus it's a shout out to the popularity of the game in America.

  8. ahem! did you forget about the back to back World Series Champions Toronto Blue Jays??? It's called World Series cuz the MLB got the name first! and they're not giving it up! plus who cares what it's called???

  9. thats a really good question. i'm not entirely sure. we do have a team from canada but that still doesnt make much difference.i'm thinking maybe its because people from all around the world want to be able to play in it one day and its just a globally known thing.

and it also could be because we have players from all different races in the majors..

  10. Because it may be considered "America's Sport" but there are a few other countries that play baseball.

  11. there was a question like this last week and i answered

    *i dont know* :)

  12. It might mainly be played in America, but it by no means is the only country that plays. Unless you believe Dice K is from the US!

  13. http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~rickert/BB/w...

Or, maybe because in America we are what some people like to call "*****" and don't really care what hte rest of the world thinks ;).

  14. I agree with dan r   :P

  15. cause it sounds good... and baseball isn't the only country that plays... every team has at least 5 Dominicans on their team

  16. When it was named the World Series, America pretty much was the only country that played baseball in general
