  1. cleopatra is known as the serpent of nile because.

as u know she is the queen of eypt  which is near the niver nile.she is also known as a playboy which haves lots and lots of husband that why she is known as a serpent having many husband in the nile valley.........................hope dis helps ^_^

  2. Cleopatra is a very popular figure throughout the world. Her image is that of a great seductress - conquering, mating and reproducing with  a chain of powerful men - the two most famous being Caesar and Mark Antony.

The Nile is seen as an eternal, dark, mysterious and highly fertile, life-giving force. Cleopatra is therefore associated with the Nile and it's exotic charm / fertility / beauty.

My favourite portrayal of Cleopatra is to be found throughout William Shakespeare's play 'Antony and Cleopatra' where for example we see the famous and wonderful speech that gives a mesmerizing description of Cleopatra sat on her throne.

We also get a picture of a mature couple who are very passionate and human.  Their love story is remarkable and filled with humour and emotions and it is hard not to be moved by their tragic end.

SHAKESPEARE is the one to claim fame for giving her the serpent nickname! In Act 1 Antony returns to Cleopatra and Egypt from a duty trip to Rome.  He loves life in Egypt and hates the coldness and formality of Rome.

He rushes back to Cleopatra's arms and on arrival he asks for Cleopatra - saying playfully: 'WHERE'S MY SERPENT OF OLD NILE?'
