  1. Maybe this will be of some help:

It's bad luck to put a hat on a bed. I imagine this could well be true in the case of an illicit love affair, as the guilty person scoots out the window or slips into the closet to hide, leaving his hat sitting at the foot of the bed.

also here is the thing about the shoes too. :)

  2. I found two explanations as to the origin of "not putting a hat on a bed"

One reason was because hats could harbor head lice.  The owner of the hat could spread their lice to the owner of the bed.

Another explanation appeared in the book, "Hats And The Cowboys Who Wear Them" by Texas Bix Bender, 1994

The hair was thought to hold evil spirits, maybe because of the static electricity that crackled, and popped, and sparked when someone took their hat off.  This was especially true of hats lined with animal fur.  If that hat was put on someone's bed, evil spirits could spill out and into the blanket and mattress.

  3. Same reason you don't put your hat on a chair... you can sit on it accidently.  Hats used to be expensive, everyone had one, no one could afford two, so you tried not to damage it.

  4. frankly, first time heard of that, maybe it is a cultural superstition tale

    "When it rains, it pours"

  5. it is?  uh-oh!  I heard that it is bad luck to put new shoes on the kitchen table.

  6. Wow, I've never hear of that. Just that it's disrespectful wearing hats indoors.

I have never heard of the new shoes on the table either.

It's funny where these superstitions get started...it's almost like people just make things up back in the day.

I bet it's because someone just didn't like it..so they say it's a superstition. Ha!
