or it is just some kind of government scam? what would it be possibly interfered with? same question goes to cell phone and any wireless devices, what exactly these devices would effect the airplane instrument? is it just a bunch of B.S.?

  1. The FAA and FCC are acting on an absurd over abundance of caution.

I'm a private pilot, and I fly with all of the sam NAV gear that the big planes have - VOR and GPS primarily. Ive constantly got my cell phone on, AM/FM radio, CD player, iPods, and I've even had a 100W ham radio on board. Plus, I fly within just a mile or less of commercial TV and radio transmitters pouring out thousands, or even tens of thousands of watts of RF.

Have I ever seen an instrument burp? Sure. They do that. They do that with all the electronic gadgets off and while 60 miles from shore enroute to the Bahamas. But I have never found a correlation between on board electronic gadgets and wonky operation of NAV/COMM equipment.

  2. So they do not interfere with communications or navigation of the aircraft. It is called RF interference and very real, though admittedly a somewhat rare occurance on aircraft. However, I have been flying as captain or copilot many times when there were temporary, unexplained "anomalies" with the equipment, very likely caused by one or several passengers running their electronic gear when they were not supposed to. It's better to be safe than sorry. Leave it off.

  3. It's a lot of things.  One is that the FAA and FCC have not done extensive testing to prove that said devices will not interfere.  So, they just ban them.  Another thing is yes, phones can interfere with radio communications.

One reason why they don't let you use any portable electronic devices during take-off and landing is so that you are paying attention during those phases.  If there is an accident, they want you to be alert and aware of what's going on.

  4. It's all a Government conspiracy. Keep in mind that many airplanes fly over the grassy knoll

  5. Just a measure of safety....cell phones have absolutely no effect on an aircrafts systems...They even had an eppisode on it on myth busters.

  6. It's mostly just BS, the chances of a plane crashing  due to radio interference is .00001 out of 2 billion.

It will cause a spike in the radar and instruments, but only for about a second. Pilots don't wanna risk that .00001 chance of crashing.

  7. Its just a safety issue on board aircrafts. Aircrafts use VHF (Very High Frequency) radios for their communications so the radio signals that is transmitted from the phones or wireless devices would cause disruption to the radio communication and aircrafts depend on communication for clearances and all. Imagine you take your mobile phone while calling someone close to a radio while its playing a broadcast you will hear some sort of disturbance.
