  1. the reduction gears on the bike multiply your effort so it's just easier.........tom

Rolling objects experience very little friction, so pedaling a bike is a relatively efficient way to turn muscle exertion into forward motion.  Walking, by contrast, involves a lot of vertical motion, stops, and starts, so you lose more energy to friction and it takes more effort to move the same distance.

  3. if you look at the tires while you are ride a bicycle the movement you make moving the pedals is almost doubled than what you would do with the same movement walking so its like walking half the distance
