  1. It's to make you feel that you are entering a shop that is healthy and cares about your health and well being.  And of course we believe it DOH!

  2. the layout of all supermarkets have been carefully planned. their aim is to make customers buy as much as possible in the time that they visit the store, therefore the layout ensures that you take in as much products as you can before making your way to the cash point.

veg and fruits are first because these have short shelf lifes, therefore the aim is for customers to browse and pick up these items pretty much as soon as they come in.

the aisles are designed so exit is not so simple, hence why you find yourself going up and down the aisles until you reach the checkouts.

you will find that the design works at making people buy things, which is why all supermarkets follow the same formats.

    simple but effective techniques.

hope this has answered your question.

  3. It's called marketting.  The market most effective if it is organized is both easily accessible and cost effective(that is, the product sells).  Since perishables must be sold or written off, the goal would be to set it up front where it is most likely to attract the attention of shoppers (hungry shoppers hopefully).  From Produce to Meat to Bakery to Deli

  4. i dont know why the fruit n veg are at the beginning either, but what gets me is why are the fresh cut  flowers at the beginning too, by the time u get to the checkout there either squashed or starting to dry out.

something i do know is that we naturally go to the right first in shops and supermarkets, thats why the more expensive brands are normally on the right as the impulse buys are on the right too.

  5. don't know but i HATE it.. I never know what veg to get till I see the meat... which means i have to traipse all the way back!!! drives me mad.. (my little pet hate!!)
