Why is it good to learn a new language?

my friend is doing some homework and needs help. All he has is travel and discovering a new world.

Well, it's good because that way you communicate with different kinds of people from different cultures, it helps you with jobs and stuff, you get to help people that don't know one language by traducing something.

The more languages you speak, the better.  You'll have more opportunities.  You can enjoy the music and movies of another culture and make friends with people from other countires. Furthermore the world is growing smaller, and people from far away are brought together via the internet.  Also, when you are constantly challenging your mind, your mind stays sharp.  

Also, a lot depends on the language.  For example all musical notation comes from Italian.  "Crescendo,"  "allegro," "adagio," etc...

That's just one example.  Many words in the legal field come from latin or French "voir dire" or "writ habeus corpus."  Also, it means more career opportunities.

My reason for learning various languages is that I can communicate with a broader variety of cultures.

If you want to TALK or understand what someone is saying to you, you have to learn the language.

Also, many jobs pay extra $$ to employees that are bilingual or multilingual.

More specifically, it opens new doors in business for you. The goal of many companies is to generate as much revenue as possible, and if they have bilingual employees, that goal is easier to achieve. That is why a lot of companies give raises to their multilingual employees.

Another reason why learning a new language is good is the fact that you can meet many people along the way and create new friends. Ever asked yourself what things would be like if you had never met a particular friend? It's the same with people who speak a different language.

The last thing is that learning a new language opens up your mind. Whenever anybody learns a new language, they also learn the cultural aspects. It doesn't matter how intelligent you are if you only speak one language, you will never be able to explain things with a different perception that way.
